The sinner's prayer is a prayer a person prays to God when they understand that they are a sinner and in need of a Savior. Saying a sinner's prayer will not accomplish anything on its own. A sinner's prayer is only effective if it genuinely represents what a person knows, understands, and believes about their sinfulness and need for salvation.

The first aspect of a sinner's prayer is understanding that we are all sinners. Romans 3:10 proclaims, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one." The Bible makes it clear that we have all sinned. We are all sinners in need of mercy and forgiveness from God (Titus 3:5-7). Because of our sin, we deserve eternal punishment (Matthew 25:46). The sinner's prayer is a plea for grace instead of judgment. It is a request for mercy instead of wrath.

The second aspect of a sinner's prayer is knowing what God has done to remedy our lost and sinful condition. God took on flesh and became a human being in the Person of Jesus Christ (John 1:1,14). Jesus taught us the truth about God and lived a perfectly righteous and sinless life (John 8:46; 2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus then died on the cross in our place, taking the punishment that we deserve (Romans 5:8). Jesus rose from the dead to prove His victory over sin, death, and hell (Colossians 2:15; 1 Corinthians chapter 15). Because of all of this, we can have our sins forgiven and be promised an eternal home in Heaven - if we will just place our faith in Jesus Christ. All we have to do is believe that He died in our place and rose from the dead (Romans 10:9-10). We can be saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone. Ephesians 2:8 declares, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God."

There is no such thing as Thee sinners prayer, it is simply to give the non-believer guidance, it is extremely important that any sinners prayer comes from the heart, with a true desire to make Him Lord and Savior!

Oh yeah, its not in the Bible, the Bible does give us accounts of people receiving Christ though, we are to repent which simply means to turn from our sinful ways, Confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior, ask Him to take full control, there isn't just one right prayer, its the one that comes from your heart.

The sinner's prayer is a figment of the modern Protestant imagination, a false tradition of men, and has no basis in scripture.

Baptism was, is, and always will be the ordinary means of initiation into the Christian faith.

Anyone who teaches otherwise is either mistaken, or is simply a heretic.

It is not in the bible, however you can use Romans 3:23, 6:23, 10:9-10 as tools to share the gospel with others.

Dear Sonia,

Many churches have come up with this hideous idea! They claim, "You say this particular prayer and you'll be saved." That is a lie from hell. If God has elected to save you,it will occur under the hearing of the word of God. The Bible tells us, "So then, faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God." FAITH is a synonym for the Lord Jesus Christ (Revelation 19:11). So then, Christ cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Please examine some of the salvation experiences mentioned in the Bible. The madman of Gergesenes. He was a demon possessed man and dwelt among the tombs. When Christ approaches, the demon possessed man says what have we to do with thee thou Jesus, Son of God? Have ye come to torment us before the time? The Lord saved that man and we see him sitting, clothed, and in his right mind and wanting to follow Jesus. That demon possessed man never said any "sinners prayer." Remember when Paul got saved on the the road to Damascus? He was on his way to capture more christians and put them to death. The bright light shines on him and he hears a voice, "Saul, Saul, why perecuteth thou me?" Paul says "Who art thou Lord?" And the Lord tells him. Paul never prayed a "sinners prayer."
Please do not be deceived by these so-called "christians."

It is not in the Bible. It was created to help lead someone to Christ.

It DOES NOT save a person.
There must be repentance of sin (turning away from sin). "Repent and believe the Good News!" - Mark 1:15 6. The required action - believe and confess. "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, YOU WILL BE SAVED. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." - Romans 10:9-10
The result - Salvation. "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord WILL BE SAVED." - Romans 10:13 "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." - Acts 4:12

Nowhere. Forgiveness from God doesn't come from words, it comes from a repentant heart. There are plenty of those in the Bible.

It's not kind of hypocritical for those who judge catholic prayers which are not in the bible.

"God, be merciful, to me, a sinner". (That came from the heart of a repentant publican).
