You need to be an adult (over 21). However, they generally won't let you adopt until you are at least mid-20s.

You MUST have a stable job. If you are single or in a committed but non-marital relationship, you need to be able to provide the income to support the child by yourself.

Unfortunately, you are more likely to be allowed to adopt if you are married and in a 2 income household.

You need to be a legal adult, so 18 years old. If you want to know more, I recommend contacting your local Department of Child and Family Services, or an adoption agency. You can also try visiting www.adoption.org to get more information. Good Luck!

Usually 21 or 25, depending on your state/local laws and/or the agency you use to represent yourself and/or adopt through.
