It can be. Usually the stuff that they feed you at large chain pizza places is packed full of grease and low quality ingredients. Also, the meats used on pizza are typically very fatty and veggies are sparsely distributed. Pizza can be a healthy food though. Here are some tips:

1. make your own. Its always nice to have that type of quality control

2. use more fresh veggies and less meats as toppings. you could even get creative and try different dried or fresh fruits.

3. steer clear of ranch style sauces and go for tomato or pesto kinds.

4. use less cheese, or simply try a skim version of your usual.

5. try a thin crust or make your own using whole wheat flour rather than all purpose. It's easier to digest.

6. DON'T EAT THE CRUST! After you've gotten through the best part of your piece of pizza, ditch the plain leftover crust. A lot of people don't realize that by doing that you are letting go of about 100 empty calories each time.

No, it is not junk food, it takes some preparation time and good basic elements like cheese, flour, oil, tomatoes, yeast, it is normally low fat if it is home made and part of the Mediterranean diet, which is a healthy diet

Commercially made pizzas classify as junkfood when they're made using white flour and processed meats, plus cheap industrial sauces and processed cheese. But it is perfectly possible to make fabulous non-junkfood pizzas at home by using wholegrain flower, premium, if any, meats, and real Mozzarella cheese.
