There's a great website - wwww.handicappedpets.com - my husband and I are vet professionals working in an alternative medicine and rehabilitative practice, so we get a lot of older dogs who've some trouble getting around. If he's tripping in the front end, they've got some great, wide, padded harnesses that can be held by a handle to give him some extra support. If it's the rear end that's having difficulty, there's a product called a Bottom's Up Leash (I know, stupid name, but it works very well). There are two loops that fit around the back legs, and the leash is held up to take some weight off the back end.
I hope these help you - we've had a lot of clients report great success with the products off that website, and the Bottom's Up Leash. Also, good for you taking your old guy out for walks - that's so great of you, and I'm sure even though he doesn't get around like he used to, he loves it a lot. what a great owner you are.

My oldest dog too drags her hind legs and sometimes trips. I got her some boots from www.dogbootsactive.com you could contact them and explain what your dog is doing and they will advise. My dog is not too impressed about wearing them but they are protecting her paws sot hey are doing their job. Or the other site you could try is www.k9carts.com

Check with either a pet store or a vet. One of them should be able to refer you to supplier.
