Imagine that you are an explorer . You have just landed on an island and you decide that eventually you would like to bring your friends and realatives there to live. You notice however there aren't any pigs on the island, and you all have exotic tastes: you and your friends and relatives simply adore pigs' feet. (Ok use your imagination here! Pigs' feet are considered a delicay by some, although frankly, I don't see it...) You decide to leave a male and a female pig on the island,go back and get your friends, and return and three years. These pigs will produce THREE LITTERS OF BABIES EACH YEAR (ONE EVERY FOUR MONTHS). There are ALWAYS TWO MALES AND TWO FEMALES IN EACH LITTER.

1) IF ALL THE FEMALES, NO MATTER HOW YOUNG OR HOW OLD, HAVE A LITTER (AS DESCRIBED ABOVE) EVERY FOUR MONTHS AND NO PIGS DIE, HOW MANY PIGS WILL BE ON YOUR ISLAND WHEN YOU RETURN? CAN YOU FIND ANY PATTERNS?
EXPLAIN YOUR STRATEGY AND REASOING PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Each four months, the number of females multiplies by two, and those already there are added, i.e. after four months, there will be two baby girls and their mother which equals three females. This is the same as simply multiplying by Three.

Month 0 = 1 female
Month 4 = 1*3 = 3 females
Month 8 = 3*3 = 9 females
Month 12 = 9*3 = 27 females
Month 16 = 27*3 = 71 females
Month 20 = 71*3 = 213 females
Month 24 = 213*3 = 639 females
Month 28 = 639*3 = 1917 females
Month 32 = 1917*3 = 5751 females
Month 36 = 5751*3 = 17253 females

Multiply by two, to take account for the males

17253*2 = 34506 pigs after 3 years (that's not too shabby)

This was done in my head, I'm too lazy to look for the calculator, so you should probably check the calculations to see if they fit

First year -
1 pair of pig = 1 X 3 X 4 (2 male, 2 female) = 12 pigs = 6 pairs
Second year-
7 (first 1 + 6 pairs of pig ) pairs = 7 X 3 x 4 = 84 pigs = 42 pairs
Third year-
49 pairs = 49 X 3 X 4 = 588 pigs (ans)

Is this right?
You dont need to b good at math, just spent some time.

The population doubles every 4 mounths in 3 years it would double 9 times because there are 36 months in 3 years and you devide 36 by 4
so the answer would be 2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2 which is also 2^9 answer would be 512 Litters (check this number i did it in my head)
512*2=1024 pigs
