Generally, if you are born with a mole, it is more likely to become cancerous.
If it is growing, changing, or bleeding, I would worry, but if not, just have your Physician check it at your next physical.

The following ABCDEs are important signs of moles that could be cancerous. If a mole displays any of the signs listed below, have it checked immediately by a dermatologist:
Asymmetry: One half of the mole does not match the other half
Border: The border or edges of the mole are ragged, blurred, or irregular
Color: The mole has different colors or it has shades of tan, brown, black, blue, white, or red
Diameter: The diameter of the mole is larger than the eraser of a pencil
Evolving: The mole appears to be changing in size, shape, color, elevation or developing new characteristics, such as bleeding, tenderness or itching
You should always be suspicious of a new mole. If you do notice a new mole, see your dermatologist as soon as possible. He or she will examine the mole and take a skin biopsy (if appropriate). If it's a melanoma (cancer), a biopsy can show how deeply it has penetrated the skin. Your dermatologist needs this information to decide how to treat the mole.

Just to be safe have it biopsied (they numb up the area and "cut" out the mole including the root, place in biopsy container and send to pathologist). I had 2 of mine done and I just took Motrin for any post op discomfort.

If you have a mole that you are worried about you should see a doctor. If a mole you have changes you should see a doctor. If you have a painful mole you should see a doctor. The only way to be certain that a mole is it her cancerous or safe is to have a test done on it. If it is not painful or changing and has been stable a long time it's probably OK. Look after your moles and don't damage them. Keep an eye on it.

You don't ever know for sure if a mole is cancerous, although you should keep an eye on it and get it checked by a Doctor if the mole has changed size, colour or appearance, becomes itchy or flakey. Don't worry too much - a large majority of moles are harmless. Just got to keep a check on them. Good luck.

If it's alittle raised, or a changes color, or misshaped, different colors in different places.
The best way to tell is to go to a Dr. Cause' any of these signs can also mean it is normal, but ya don't want to mess around if it is not.
If you don't have coverage, ya can often get it free from the state.
In New Jersey you have to make a really lot, and I mean alot! Before you can't qualify. There are soo many people here who could get coverage and they don't know it. Just contact you're County.
Or hospital clinic card. All that takes is an application. Or the clinic. Don't wait. They can take that thing off in 10 minutes! They did for my sister, and it probably saved her life!

Biopsy. My husband went through malignant melanoma and he had a mole the size of a pinhead on his forearm! The other signs are a mole that is irregular in shape, turns colors, like brown and black and sometimes they bleed. But the only definite way to know is with a biopsy. Don't let it go...get it checked out!

I recently talked to my doctor about one of mine. This is what he told me.
Get it checked out:
1. If it changes shape, texture, or has a great change in color.
2. If it has jagged edges or is noticeably asymmetrical.
3. If it hurts.
4. If it grows or multiplies.
Of course, only 2 or 3 are noticeable to you since you just found it. It is normal to have new moles appear from time to time. Just keep an eye on it and see if anything happens. And, of course, see a doctor if you're worried.
Good luck!

Any worries and you must get checked by a doctor. I had a few on my back and new ones started to appear, but the doctor could tell me right away that they were innocent. Certainly puts the mind to rest. A mole appearing is not per se cancerous, but if it starts to itch (like mine), bleed, is rough and changed texture, then you must get a test.

Usually really dark moles are the ones to watch out for. If you aren't sure, see a doctor right away. My ex-wife had one that she wanted checked out, it turned out to be cancerous and if she'd waited a month longer, it would have been too late to have done a thing about it.
