Indiana paddles and it is legal. I know this because i volunteer at a school that paddles and this school special education school, and there is only kids with disabilities and that is all.

It is not a public or private school i don't think. it is a special school.

Don't say it is illegal because it is legal to do this, and it is not any kids that have no disabilities. okay.

It is not illegal in my state, but all of the school districts decided to ban it within themselves.

How can your school justify paddling kids with disabilities? Children with mental disabilities will not learn from it, and kids with physical disabilities are already being punished enough. My mom has taught both ends of Special Ed, and the best way she has learned to get through to these kids is through love, logic, and a firm VERBAL hand.

I hope they don't paddle the special education kids--that is way wrong.

In my state schools are not allowed to paddle--it is illegal in even private schools. But that is the exception. In most states private schools can still spank.

In some states paddling in public schools is still permitted. In some of these it is a district by district decision. For example paddling still goes on in Texas and Arizona.

I went to an all girl's Catholic grade school and high school (not in the state I currently live in). They paddled then (I was once a recipient--LOL)--and it is my understanding they still do.

There are 23 states that have corporal punishment whether it's public or private has no effect. Now depending on the legislature of the state might factor in if the school district decide on corporal punishment or not. The parents can sign a corporal punishment waiver at the school to prevent unnecessary force.

Listed are the states that still condone corporal punishment. (Funny that the school can hit my child but I can't!!!)

Arizona
Arkansas
Colorado
Delaware
Florida
Georgia
Idaho
Indiana
Kansas
Kentucky

Missouri
New Mexico

It is legal to paddle in Missouri. The parent has to sign a form giving permission though.

It's legal in Texas, though where I live parents usually have to give permission. Many parents though, throw a fit that their precious doesn't deserve it, so the child gets away with little punishment. So maybe Amavo has a point.

I wish it was legal everywhere. Maybe if it were, we wouldn't have metal detectors at our schools these days.
