You are not an alcoholic until you go to meetings. Up until that time, you are a drunk.

Being an alcoholic has nothing to do with how much or how often you drink, no one can tell you if you are an alcoholic. Only you can know that yourself. But..."if you have to ask..."
So called "normal" drinkers usually don't question if they have a problem or not. Do a little experiment, try not drinking on that second weekend, see what happens. Maybe you can go for a while without drinking, some real alcoholics can go for long periods of time and not drink, some can't. It is the thoughts and feelings and behaviors that are usually the real indicators when they are NOT drinking. Yes the behavior of the alcoholic when drinking is some times a red light, but alcoholism is much more subtle, for instance, when you are not drinking how do you feel, for example you mentioned craving alcohol, are you also irritable, and discontented until you drink again? Do you think about your next drink? When your going to do it? If you seriously think that you are an alcoholic, find an AA meeting in your area, go and listen, see if you relate to anything. If your still not sure, then keep doing what your doing, it either won't be a big deal, or things will get worse.

a true alcoholic would't have that kind of will power to NOT drink that often. The cravings part of your question raises some concerns that you may have the addictive type of personality that could very easily become an alcoholic. Alcoholism is also genetic, so you could be one even if you've never had alcohol. Keep yourself in check!

Not yet you aren't
It starts off with a taste
"mmm, this stuff is good"
Then you will start drinking it regularly
You will then try to set times you want to drink- so you "dont drink too much"
Then when you get cravings you'll be like
"oh- it wont hurt if i only take a sip" but you wont take a sip, will you John? OH no- hahaha- it will be 4-5-6 a whole bottle!
you'd be uncontrollable- drink whenever you want!
saying "I can control what i do- dont worry-
"If i get drunk- i wont go out- i will stay home"
But john- you know you cant control it- NO!...
It only gets worse from there- it only gets WORSE!
(I called you john for dramatic effect)

By No means, No you are not. An alcoholic is someone who drinks almost or every day or someone who needs to drink and that usually is almost or every day.
My dad use to be an alcohlic and I've been with someone who was. Not a pretty picture! So enjoy your weekends! Be Safe and don't Drink and Drive!

Having cravings for alcohol is definitely an indication that something is up. Being able to control them is where you can draw the line between being an alcoholic and not. Keep up the good work

If the consumption of alcohol interfers with your life you might have a problem. If you count your drinks or change your drink to help cut back you might have a problem. the only person who can really decide this is you. Basically it comes down to self-honesty.

The official definition of an ALCOHOLIC is, 'someone who uses alcohol to achieve a otherwise unobtainable level of feeling good, by drinking alcohol...once or more in a 21 day period'.
This includes 90% of everybody I KNOW... join the club of the average, normal, workingclass, reality crowd.

Cravings? I had cravings for a drink when I was 6, that was long before I actually had one.

You are what is called a binge drinker. Binging on alcohol (lets say 6 or more beers that night) is actually worse for you then having 1 or 2 beers a day every day. I suggest instead of getting plastered those days cut down on your alcohol consumption, you will kill less liver and brain cells that way.
