No, that will make a mess. Use crushed Lifesavers, they come in a variety of colors and melt better than anything else. Put them into a plastic bag and hit them with a hammer to break - they don't need to be pulverized.

Just adding a note to say that I've tried different kinds of candy and Lifesavers are the best. You especially don't want to mix different kinds, because they may melt unevenly.

Stained Glass Cookies

Ingredients:

butter
premade cookie dough (sugar cookie dough works great)
leftover hard holiday candy or multicolored lollipops

Preparation:

Place candy in a clear plastic bag and crush with a hammer or mallet. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and grease paper with butter. On the paper, press dough into cookies then cut out center of dough. Fill the hollow middle in with crushed candy.

Bake cookies at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. The melted candy will give the cookies a stained-glass look. Allow to cool completely before eating.

I saw this recipe on the Food Network last week. You crush up hard candy like Lifesavers or Brach's hard candy and fill the cut out section of cookie with the bits of candy. During baking the candy bits will melt and get hard, looking like stained glass.

You can use crushed Life Savers, Jolly Ranchers, or other clear hard candy in cut out cookies. My recipe calls for greasing a cookie sheet, forming the dough into ropes 1/8 inch in diameter, outlining the cookie shapes with the dough, filling in the centers with the crushed candies, and then baking.

For sliced refrigerator cookies, you can use multi-colored mini marshmallows for the color.

Stained Glass Cookies
1 12 oz. package of chocolate chips
1/2 c. margarine
1 10 1/2 oz. package small colored marshmallows
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 10 oz package coconut

Melt chocolate and margarine over medium heat and cool. Add marshmallows, nuts, and vanilla. Place on wax paper and form into two logs. Roll logs over coconut, wrap in wax paper, and refrigerate. Slice when firm. Yield: 2 dozen

Stained Glass Confections
What you need:
• 20-25 clear hard candies such as Jolly Rancher®, unwrapped
• Vegetable oil or nonstick cooking spray

Spray Stoneware mold with vegetable oil using Kitchen Spritzer
or spray with nonstick cooking spray. Melt candies in Small (8-in.) Sauté Pan over medium heat 5-6 minutes or until candy is completely melted and surface is bubbly. (Do not overheat.)
Pour melted candy into mold. Cool candy in mold 10-12 minutes
or until candy is set around edge and begins to harden.
Unmold candy by carefully lifting edge of candy out of mold
using Quikut Paring Knife. Invert mold and carefully peel candy out of mold. Gently press candy on hard surface to flatten, if necessary. Cool completely.

Microwave Oven Method
Spray Stoneware mold, Small Batter Bowl (including spout)
and Skinny Scraper with vegetable oil or nonstick cooking
spray. Place candies in batter bowl; microwave, uncovered, on
HIGH 1-2 minutes or until candy is completely melted. Carefully
pour into mold, scraping out candy using scraper. Cool and
unmold candy as directed. Allow batter bowl to cool completely
before soaking in hot water. Invert mold and carefully peel
candy out of mold.

Test Kitchen Tips
• To use more than one candy color, melt small amount of candy needed for each area of design separately in sauté pan. Using the Cake Tester to help control the flow of the candy, slowly drizzle melted candy into desired area. Melt remaining candies and pour over design to fill mold completely.
• To create a hole for hanging, use the Cake Tester or wooden
toothpick to make a hole near the top of the heart after 8-10 minutes of cooling.
• Do not allow candy to cool completely in mold or it will be very difficult to remove.
• To store, place individual confections in small resealable plastic food storage bags. Store in a cool, dry place.
To make a lollipop, attach a lollipop stick to the back of the finished confection using a small amount of additional melted candy.
Wrap confections in cellophane and tie with a decorative ribbon for year-round gift giving. Make a Sweet Gift
