A pantsuit probably isn't that great of an idea. You probably will want to look feminine. The fact that you have right after work doesn't make a bit of a difference. You can always leave your party outfit in your car, and dress in the stall, and brighten up your make up. If you don't drive to work, bring a nice duffle with your outfit carefully folded and stuff it under your desk.
I'm a little heavier too, and I usually prefer black whenever it comes to formalizing my dresscode. First of all, black usually looks formal in itself, and it easily make a woman look slimmer. Think simple and solid. It not only makes you look nicer, but it's more versatile in your wardrobe.
You need a dress. When doing so consider the season. Sleeveless or strapless is a fashion faux pas, and you should try to go calf-length or long--probably calf length. Three quarter sleeves are very flattering and I suggest it, whether it be part of your dress or a sophistocated sweater over it. Whenever it comes to a neckline, don't be a prude yet don't be a skank. Remain semi-professional.
You don't have to keep with black. Splashes of color are fabulous, and just the right touch.
Don't forget accessories whenever it comes to the perfect outfit.
Goodluck. I know I wasn't specific, but I have to leave room for personal taste.
You're going to look beautiful. Have a great time!

General rule of thumb for the office dress code should reflect 'feminine not seductive' - that said you have several options - tailored pant suit which is flattering regardless of body type can easily be taken from day to nighttime look by adding a scarf and other key jewelry accents. Keep in mind too that colors and fabric choice (silk, satin) can also convey a sophisticated yet professional image.

I would just go to work as normal. Take a dress, hose and pumps with you to change into after work. Show up looking fabulous. Others may just go in what they went to work in.
If you wanted to, just wear a simple black dress to work, and then dress it up a bit with heels, a cool scarf or rhinestone brooch of some sort. Even a nice jacket. something festive. I think you should definately have a little change over when 5 o'clock hits.

Buy a new dress or skirt and sweater or black pants and sweater (it could be red) and some cute but comfortable little heals and bring them with you and change before the party. Take your makeup bag and toothbrush and toothpaste and curling iron and hair spray to refresh your face and hair. You want to look cute and sexy, but not slutty. Just look your best. Also wear your best smile. Happy holidays and have a great time. Also, don't drink too much and dance crazy.

You may want to pack a nicer, more festive outfit for the evening party. If that is too difficult, then it should definately be a dressier day.
You want to feel comfortable and if you are in the 'regular' office attire, it won't feel like a party. Go all out, have fun.

Wear black slacks with a festive, sparkly camisole under either a sweater or a jacket and normal daytime shoes. When the party starts...reveal the camisole and cover with a pretty scarf and strap on some dressy high heels. Change your jewelry and freshen your makeup and voila! You're done. :-)

You MIGHT want to help us help you by giving some more information? The most basic bit would be... are you a man or a woman? What is the dress code for work? etc.
OK. that's better... Can't go wrong with black.

Wear something basic.... in black. It's always safe. Bring some dressier jewelry and perhaps a holiday themed scarf or shawl to dress it up. If you wear nude hose normally, bring black and some dressier shoes to change into as well.... may be black velvet ones, or something.
Above all, have a great time!
Merry Christmas!

Dress smartly, remember it's still a formal occasion no matter how drunk and merry everyone gets. Hey have you seen this cool video website - Videojug - they've got lots of advice on how to behave at the office Christmas party, how to survive Christmas and they show you how to make decorations and stuff. I like the Christmas wreath video.
