I have a digital freeview system as part of an integrated TV system and I want to record one digital channel whilst watching another digital channel. Is this possible? The place where I bought it from doesn't know and couldn't tell me?

A freeview unit needs to have twin tuners to record one channel while watching another. This is true whether the freeview is a separate unit or integrated within the TV itself. If you can tell me the make and model number of your TV/Freeview I'll endeavour to give you specific information relating to your particular unit.

Let me guess, you bought it from either comet or currys right? They're useless for info like that, i had exactly the same problem-they never told me that i needed a dvd recorder with an inbuit digital decoder in it. The reason why normal dvd players cant do it is because in order to record one channel and watch another, it needs to store the channel in its memory, and it cant so this if it doesn't recognise it as a digital channell. It annoys me that manufacturers chose not to release dvd recorders with inbuilt digital decoders when freeview first became popular;as a result they're basically making you buy the same product twice.

no you need a digital tuner for every item ie 1 for what you watch and 1 for what you record if you buy a freeview box and fit it to your vcr or dvd recorder then you can watch on the tv with the built in one and record a different chanel with the freeview box they are about £30

Only if your (DVD?) recorder has its own digital tuner.

i.e. You need two Freeview tuners - one in the IDTV telly or freeview box... & one in your recorder.

PS It sounds like a useless shop!

if it's a twin tuner,
think along the lines of the old vcr systems.
watch what you record.
easy option is to buy a second cheap freeview box.
