What was his name and how long did he live and Why do people these days don't live as long as people did back in those days in the beginning of time?

According to the Bible, Methusela was 999. I don't think people really live longer these days. In ancient story telling traditions, the age of a person would be used to tell how wise the person was. So, a very wise person would have a very old age, no matter what their actual life span was.
