If it will hurt them then how do you stop them from eating it?

I don't think so but don't put tinsel on your tree your cat will eat it and it can block her intestines.

I believe according to an ASPCA newsletter I get that almost all holiday plants are toxic to cats... don't know, but pine may have been included... (if you really want to know try http://www.aspca.org ) Anyway, I would suggest you try to limit her pine needle consumption by sweeping them up as often as possible. Just keep an eye on her. I wouldn't worry if she got one or two a day. If she is eating them to play with them try distracting her with something else. (marbles!) If the are toxic she may have some diarreah and nausea, if this is the case, call your vet and he/she can direct you from there. Hope you cat has an enjoyable holiday! (and you too)

Hi there...according to Cat World's website pine needles can puncture internal organs if eaten as they are also toxic to cats. It's best to regularly clean the fallen needles as soon as possible or spray the tree with Grannick's Bitter Apple to deter them: http://www.grannicks.com/
