Wait for him to ask you. It's sweeter and besides any guy who's worth anything likes the ability to chase after the girl for a bit before getting her.

float it out there in a teasing way..."hey, why don't you take me out sometime you loser?" or "let's hang out one evening, we'll have fun." something like that takes the edge off both sides but it shows you are interested, a normal person, and someone who might provide a nice companion for an evening with little pressure if it's a flop. esp for a guy, we always worry if you will have a good time or not, so if you are already suggesting the two of you will have fun, then he doesn't have to go into it so concerned. I've done a lot of dating and these are always the most fun ones. good luck to you.
