Put $28,000 in a college fund, right now. You can have a great party for $1,200. Less than that actually, if you're creative. You'll never regret an education, but you might regret blowing thousands of dollars on a party.
You could go traditional with a cake, friends, dancing, etc. Pick a theme that interests you. Or you could do something a little different: take a few close friends to the spa, rent a movie theatre for a private showing of a great film (not sure what it costs, but it's worth looking into). Or, and here's my personal favorite, after you get your driver's liscense, go to a dealership and test drive your favorite car. You'll need to take a parent with you, but wouldn't it be a blast to drive your dream car...for FREE? Fun doesn't have to equal expensive. The best parties I've ever been to had three things: true friends, laughter, and creativity.
Happy birthday!

that is an obscen amount of money to spend on a 16th birthday!..I realy like the persons's suggestion of giving half to chairty. You have more than many people could ever dream of haing..there are so many starving kids in the wrold..and apperantly you are not one of them..do yourself a fvour..share your wealth with the less fortunate..
as for the party..How about a spa day..(altho you liekly get that every day anyays)..just give all the money to chairty..you will hardly miss it at all.

You're spending almost 30 grand on a freaking party? I can't imagine... but hire a party planner, if you've got the funds. Might as well. I don't have planning ability.

It depends what kind of theme you would want to do. You could do a arabian nights theme, las vegas theme, the best thing to do is to go and hire a party planner who can give you a lot of ideas that are unique and that fit your personality.

take half of it, donate it to a chairity, and instead of presents, ask friends to donate to the same chairity in your name. The other 15K can go to food, party stuff, etc.
You're spending 30 K on a party when you could spend it on something meaningful for someone less fortunate. Shame on you.
