Maggots will only eat pus and infection so they're helpful in foot ulcers and things like that. They help promote healing.

Its only certain types of fly maggots used for this procedure since some of them eat only dead flesh and others eat ANY flesh.
It is an old procedure used from years before antibiotics. Ancient warriors who were wounded in battle noticed that if they were infected by maggots the would would heal better and faster and not get infected as easy as if they kept it wrapped. It is still a used technique in military training when in deep jungles where extraction from a mission is difficult.

Yes they are clinically approved. There are special medicinal maggots used by some doctors as the maggots eat the dead tissue and secrete a anti-biotic substance to combat further infection. They were first discovered during the civil war on solders in the battle field.

maggots are inserted into infected wounds because they only eat dead cells/tissue. when they are done eating the dead cells they move out. or in a clinical setting they are removed. we had a case of ear cancer. the maggots were placed deep in the ear. did the job. then new cells/tissue could begin to grow.

Eww, they are? I never heard of that. What if they went into the wound, and all up inside your body? That would be straight up freaky.
