I have 4 boys and try to stay at $100 per child, but this year I have found myself at about $120 each for the two teens and still at $100 each on the toddlers. I agree that it really should be what you can afford.

We have an overall holiday budget but not strict spending limits on each child.
That said, I believe we spend a lot less than most people.... certainly less than $100/kid. Each gets a gfit from Santa and their stockings filled w/small gifts. And each gets one gift from us as well as one from each other. That's it. Sometimes they might get a large joint gift rather than smaller individual gifts.
They have 4 sets of grandparents (gotta love divorce) and are the only grandkids for 3 sets so between the grannies and the aunties, they get more than any kid needs. We keep our gifting to a minimum so they don't get overwhelmed. One year, we actually didn't get them anything except from Santa because the other relatives were so over the top it was ridiculous.

Never spend more on xmas presents than you can afford. It plain isn't worth going into debt for. My gf spends $25 dollars for each of her kids, I spend about $100, my sister spends more than that. It all depends on your income and yes set a limit.

Under $100 per child usually. They get 5-6 things that I know they will like (a cute top, a game, a CD etc).

I am a single mom and on a fixed income. I have 2 children(13&3), I am spending no more than $150 each (OH YEA, IT CAN BE DONE) Look for night owl sales, coupons, instant rebates, and compare prices!!!!! it has worked for me two years in a row and my kids have been very happy. Good Luck!!!!!
P.S.- during a nite owl sale, i got a MP3 player for $19.99!!!!!

I don't set a limit on how much money I spend on them. I just make sure they get the same amount of gifts as their sibling so it's fair. I don't want to sit around arguing when my child wonders why her sibling got more than her just because I set a limit and her presents just happened to be more expensive so I couldn't get her as many.
