I don't think I ever really believed. I was pretty young when I figured it out. I would sit in Sunday school and hear how they though the world got here and it was absurd. That led to question why they thought everything and I found that they didn't have a reason other than "FAITH."
That to me just equaled that someone else made it up and they chose to believe it because it was convenient. I had a little trouble with it because everyone I knew bought it. Thank goodness I finally found Cosmos on PBS and figured out that there were other people (and really smart ones) who thought the same thing.

I took an honest look at the three major monotheistic religious constructs and simply could not accept them. Why?
How can anything professing to be absolute truth not have a significant or meaningful place set at the table for women? The three major monotheistic religions ghettoize women to one degree or another. There is no recognition of the Divine Feminine nor is there any real appreciation for the function of women within our living reality of human duality. One without the other cannot possibly survive yet one is held at a much lower level and in the worst case scenario, demonized. The Inquisition was an act against women in the name of religion with over 80% of those murdered being women. And in modern times?
If monotheism looked at and treated both genders with full respect and equality, could a movie like "The Devil is a Woman" by Josef von Sternberg (1935), ever be made? Can you imagine its counterpart? Would anyone go out to the theater and see a film called, "The Devil is a Man?" Doubt it. Highly.
Thank you no. Given the rules and regulations, let alone such heinous acts being perpetrated against women in the name of religion, I'd rather not take out membership in any one of the three major monotheistic religions. Frankly, I'd like to see them all die on the vine and be replaced by something far more life affirming let alone respectful of both genders.

My experiences were like "a_delphic." I couldn't continue what seemed such a shallow approach to reality. It was as if every time an issue became intellectually challenging, interesting or awesome, religion demanded that we beat a hasty retreat and hide behind the wall of dogma. After a while it felt dishonest to pretend that whole areas of philosophy, science and even spirituality were "sinful" or heretical.
Education, a war, and a family, all moved me away from easy acceptance of anything "revealed." If I had to put in in a sentence, I'd say I outgrew it.

Well let's see I can't say it was the entire thing but a major factor was THE FLOOD & SODOM AND GOMORRAH. In these stories God calls people wicked, evil, or sinful HOWEVER THIS GOD HAD NOT CREATED A SINGLE LAW BY WHICH TO JUDGE IF SOMEONE WAS GOOD OR EVIL!
Paul is said in Romans 7:7 that without the law he knew not sin!
Given this fact how could the people in the time of the flood or sodom and gomorrah have known they were doing anything wrong?
Then there are all the times this God kills innocent children! Exodus 11: 4-5
How evil must this God be before you say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

I lose my faith when I attend college because thats when I start reading other religions, after that I became a buddhism. And the reason is that when I was a chris I was taught that I will go to haven becasue I believe in chris and all my sins will be forgiven. But if you are not a chris even if you are a good person you will go to hell. How f up is that?

it's been so long, I don't know if I could compile a single representative list. But basically, as I learned more about the world, a Judeo-Christian god and an ancient book we were supposed to accept as unquestioning "truth" made less and less sense. Questions either were unanswered, poorly answered, or met with hostility. More and more, it seemed like a self-reinforcing delusion (i.e. "the bible is true because the bible says it is true"). The god of the old testament seemed more and more like a bipolar egomaniac, too.

The thought that a supreme being with the power to prevent ANY injustice could sit and do nothing.
The thought that a supreme being with the power to cure any illness could sit and do nothing.
It goes against the very morals that religion teaches...help people, etc. If any God wants me believing, he'll need to look me up. I'm unlisted, but that's no big deal for someone who's omnipotent.
For those who believe: I respect your right to believe as you will, please respect mine and don't besiege me with comments. Unless you've been dead, met your God personally and are coming back with a full report...you're just guessing like I am.

LOSE YOUR FAITH?
How can you look out the window and think it was all an acident? The Bible is not ridiculous. You should read what the Romanians and the Chinese believe!
The Bible is probably the most believeable. If it doesn't add up to you, then you should probably see a pastor. It doesn't have to make sense to YOU for it to be real. Ask someone who it does make sense to. Then they might be able to explain it better.
The world is like a video game. When a designer creates a video game, he uses the Event Editor to say "if this then that". When I made a video game, in the event editor I said, If MISSLE A comes in contact with TANK B, then destroy TANK B. That's how reality works. God said, "If LEFT HAND comes in contact with FIRE Q234F, then burn LEFT HAND"

What do you think is meant by "seeing they may see and not perceive and hearing they may hear and not listen"? I read on Yahoo that the Bible convinced a person to convert to Islam,I am not surprised.
