Well to Moses I think audibly from a mountain the rest I am not sure but probably through the faith they had by listening to their hearts or angels God sent.

According to the movie it was Audibly. I'm not sure I don't think it actually states how but I would assume it was spiritual.

He took them up into his spaceship and sat them down in a comfortable seat, gave them something to drink and told them to back and educate the masses. That makes just as much sense as thinking they were "divinely inspired" and all that other claptrap churches keep cramming down people's throats.

How do we know they weren't hearing voices? Because if someone nowadays said they heard the voice of God, we'd call him crazy and want to send him to the lunny-bin.
