My friend told me the best time to take is just before going to sleep. My pharmacist friend told me to take just after dinner. Which is correct?

neither. The 'best' time is two hours after supper. But since nobody can realistically remember to do that, I vote for bedtime.

With the older statins, you're suppose to take it at bedtime without food, but newer ones like Lipitor you can take whenever with or without food. For Lescol, you should take at bedtime.

I would definitely take it with food, like after dinner. It is a good drug but you may notice excess gas. That was the side effect I experienced.

I take mine after dinner, have had no problems and my cholesterol has gone down like it was supposed to.

most statins are usually prescribe to take around 8pm or before bed. so it all depends on what is prescribe on your bottle and what you doctor told you.
