Dealers you get guarantees and trust me you need them don't ever buy a car with one.

Private party its faster at times but there is now way of knowing what they did to so it sounds good at that moment. Then when you go 50 miles or so you find out they did a lot to make sound real good but really it was just a piece of junk.

Good luck My best advise is go to a well know dealer that many people have said did a good job with. Trust you intuitions. Don't let them push a car on you. ever. Good luck again.

Dealer

1. You will pay throught nose (top book) for your car
2. You will get warranty (usually 3 months)
3. Finance option is usually available

Private

1. The car will probably be cheaper and there is more room for negotiation with the seller.
2. The gamble is that there is no come back if there is a fault with the car (sold as seen)
3. You must ALWAYS do a full HPI check before purchasing your car privately to ensure it's not an insurance write off or has been stolen.

Personally, I've always bought privately as I hate dealerships and so far have never had a problem.

First, do alot of research. Then find the car youwant. I'd never decide for or against a car, just because it was on a lot or from a private party. You can get warranties through a dealer. You have a little bit of help with an immediate problem if purchased from a dealer. I'd rather see the previous owner face to face and determine if the vehicle was maintained, rather than having the salesman tell me it's a creampuff. I've bought lots and lots of cars and trucks and it doesn't matter that much to me when I find the right vehicle, but given a choice for the same car, I'd rather buy from the individual.

Buying a pre-owned vehicle at a car dealership has many advantages. First off, A dealer will have a certified tranied technician performs an inspection of the vehicle and perform a maintainance before selling it, they also can sell extended warrantys that protect your vehicle if anything fails in the engine or elsewhere. And, most of the vehicles are certified meaning that the factory will issue a free warranty if you purchase a pre-owned vehicle from the dealer. If you don't have all the money up-front to purchase the vehicle, you can finance through a car dealership. Dealerships will take responsibility if the car breaks down within a certain time period.
If you plan to purchase private party, you may get a better price, but I guarantee that you will not know much about the vehicle's history. Its like taking a 50/50 gamble. You may get a reliable car, or you may get stuck with a peice of junk that will end up costing you a lot more in the end! Everyone of my friends whom bought from a private party regrets it to this day! If you have any questions about certified pre-owned vehicles contact

well a dealer will occasionaly have a warranty on said vehicle, whereas a priv seller will not. also some dealers will offer a carfax report, and some priv individuals will as well. it really boils down to the specific vehicles condition, the seller, and your ability to diagnose a vehicle's condition
