Well I am a Pentecostal Minister since your are referring to Mass I take it you are Catholic. It really depends on the church. I have lay people lead singing ,take up offerings, open the service , take prayer request.
I feel that the main responsibility of the clergy is to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and follow his leading into which direction that the service is to go. Also it is the responsibility of clergy to be prepared and study the Word in order to speak the word.
Also as the Pastor , the Pastor has the responsibility of every thing that goes on in the church or that is taught by teachers or is spoken from behind the pulpit.
