The pros's are that the Army can make you into a better person, and in the main they are a good bunch of people. The con's are that you could end up doing something that you're immoral dumba ss commander chief lied his way into doing, like the invasion of Iraq.

You see more of the world that your non army peers, you get free health care, free clothing and shelter, free food, free just about everything. What you don't get free you get in the PX cheaper than civilians. You get your butt trained off! You will do your military job 100% better than most civilians do their day to day job. (You'll like it too, since you will know you are a professional!) You will be working with other professionals, not some Joe Lunchbox slob who is working just to feed his face at home. You can learn other skills either through OJT (On the Job Training.) or correspondance courses by mail, thus increasing your chances of promotion. You travel mostly for free, if you can take time to go space "A". The pay is not as bad as they say if you are single. You get discounts in lots of places. If you join at 18 and put in your 20, you can "retire" at 38! (On half pay you will still need another job, but a 20 year person will find a well paying job in short order.) And if you pick a combat arms MOS you will be able to go home on leave and kick all the butt that needed kickin' when you left. (I gained 40 pounds in basic and AIT, and some fun new skills.) If you are a team player, the military is the right choice.

The drawbacks are plenty, like long periods away from home, but you get over that pretty quick. You can't do your own thing whenever you want, and strange dress and odd habits are the quick death to a career. The extreme downside is you could possibly get killed or maimed. But the US military has the best equipment in the world, and damn good training to help you use it to keep yourself in one piece. They also have great doctors. (I know this from experience. My left leg still works thanks to some damn good work by army surgeons.) Your best bet is to talk to, hopefully, a relative who was in the service, or someone you trust who was in the service.

The horror stories are all hogwash told by timid civilians who are making an excuse for not doing their service. Just ask a happy military person his view. If it was that bad, would there be so many people in the military! You'll be glad you did. There is nothing else like it on earth. Go in with ears open and mouth closed and you will be a better person for it. I still get a kick out of seeing the look on a persons face who sees my living room for the first time. On the wall, in neat rows, are my certificates, awards, pictures from basic until I got out, etc. Not the normal family album pictures, for sure!

There are times you will hate it. You will want to get out. (Most people do.) But when you are older and wiser you will have fond memories of your friends, the local people you met when overseas, and the places you lived.

the pro's you get to see the world ,i hear alot about its a good career to join the army ,yet there are alot of veterans living on the streets .also theres over 500,000 that have been exsposed to biohazardous materials and exsposed to uranium blasted areas, yes uranium missiles are being used by us in the iraqi war??? and they talk about WMD'S? any way by being exsposed to all this you can enjoy your guts dissolving and your bones fusing together and many types of cancer,3 of many symptoms . also you can enjoy blowing innocent people up and fighting in a war not for your country but for the globalists .yeh if your thinking about it ,i sugest you dont ,anyway you can wait for world war 3 which will happen in the not to distant future and be drafted then,i wont be part of it.

these are different for everyone. It depends on your oppinion of living the military life-style.
I personality like it. (USAF enlisted) It's hard if you want a family, or even a stable relationship. (with deployments and TDY's and all) But I love my job, the people I work with, and the fact that I can say I'm in the military.

If you choose a job that has no relevance to a civilian job (like mine, weapons loader on a fighter jet) then you should want to make the military a career. Or, if you choose a job like medical then you can get out in 4 years with valuable training for a well paid civilian job.
