I have a pair of great knee length boots, but I can wear them because my calfs are very muscular and big. What leg exercises can I do to make my calfs smaller?

If you want muscles to get smaller then you shouldn't work them out.

you can not spot reduce so if your talking about losing fat from you calf muscle you must eat right; 6 small meals a day, organic foods is the best and probably do a full body cirtuct lifting routine 3-4 times a week ideally no rest in between sets and followed up by cardo about 3-5 times a week.

so if you just want to lose fat from your calf you can not just lift or perform some exercise to make that calf shrink,

though if you want to lose muscle from your calf don't exercise or do anything to work out your calf.

you can eather gain fat or lose fat or you can build muscle or lose muscle.

though you can't work out a muscle to lose fat specifically from that location, that is not how the body works.

Any stress to those muscle will cause them to increase in size.

You might try yoga or pilates DVDs. They tend to lengthen muscles, but it takes a while.

The ONLY way to exercise to decrease the size of a muscle is to OVERTRAIN that muscle. Don't listen to any of this pilates BS. I am assuming you have NO fat on you calves, of course. This is a pretty advanced technique, though, and should be done with the assistance of a knowledgeable trainer. Lifting weight breaks down the muscle. Eating enough and sleeping is what makes it bigger. Lifting weight to much/too often keeps breaking it down without allowing your body to rebuild fast enough.

I suggest pilates because pilates stretches your muscles so they are not so bulky. Or maybe yoga.
