My 2000 Ford Focus started leaking coolant. I have not been able to pin point the exact location were the leak is occuring. It might be near were the PCV valve is located between the right side of the engine and the battery. The car started doing this after I flushed the cooling sytem with Prestone Super Cleaner. Could it be this product worked so well that it removed all the rust that was blocking the leak?
My big concern is that I have to drive this car the next couple of days. I constantly check the coolant level. I have to add about a quart of 50/50 premix every other day. The leak occurs when the car is parked not when the engine is idling. Where is the water pump located on this vehicle?

If your car is equipped with the 2.0L DOHC Zetec engine, it's the plastic thermostat housing that is leaking coolant. That would be the housing located directly beneath the ignition coilpack, where the upper rad hose connects to. The only fix for this is replacement. Go to your local friendly Ford parts department to order the two pieces, as well as the thermostat itself, while you are "in there". The parts aren't that expensive. But in answer to your question, I wouldn't drive it like that for very long before getting it fixed, before it becomes much more expensive than what I've described so far. You might want to check the valve cover gasket as well. Those are known to leak for that model year. Hope this helps.

Just to clarify, the thermostat housing is made out of plastic. The leak from the valve cover would be an OIL leak which was something I thought I'd add in addition to the concern you are inquiring about. Everything I've mentioned are inexpensive problems to fix, and if you are handy, you should be able to fix yourself.

Should be OK.as long as there is coolant.

The secret to keeping the car running is clear to you...the coolant must continue to flow; and be at the correct level. .

There is a product that I successfully used to stop a lead. Prestone Stop-Leak. It is essentilly a heat activated glue with bits of coarse grit added. WHen flowing in the cooling system, the grit migrates to the leak, the glue surrounds if and when the system cools, it hardens and stops the leak, sometimes.

It is better to have the leak professionally repaird if you can't do it. It's a pain to monitor the coolant every drive.

Buy a pressure checker tool. One end is a radiator cap and the other end is a pump with a PSI Gauge. Then put under pressure and check for leaks that simple. If none seen try a little more pressure and maybe check the heater core in the dash.

No, you shouldn't. If you pin point it you can get stuff you can put on it but that would be temporary.

You need whatever is leaking to be replaced.

The Coolant taste yummy to some animals like dogs and kills them or causes permenant damage depending on if they got a drop or a lap/lick into their bodies. So if you care about animals,.. get it fixed immediately.

it will be OK as long as you keep cheek on the coolant levels. you could actually add plain water to your car to save money. just make sure that it isn't going to get below freezing if you do it more then 2 days in a row.

not expensive. it should be allright to drive, but
