not 'well' as in 'bien' (like 'a job WELL done')
but 'well' as in, "WELL, i was going to the store.. WELL, i don't know"

thanks!

Well, the best thing to say would be «Eh bien» or «bien»
Eh bien, j'allais au magasin...
Bien, je ne sais pas...
Or you could say «alors»...
Allors, j'allais au magasin...
Alors, je ne sais pas...

:)

Well, I was going to the store..." Et bien j'allais au magasin"
Well, I don't know "En fait, j'en sais rien"

As a French native speaker I would use "En fait" rather than "Et bien" and I would advise you against using "Alors" with this meaning.

Dictionaty suggests: bien (adj), bien (adv), donc, puits, bien.
I have heard people say 'wala' (don't know the exact spelling, but is pronounced like Waalaa.)

Eh bien is the one I use most often.
Alors I use more for "so."

Eh bien, or the Quebec version, ben (pronounced the same as "bain", like a nasalized "bay").

"En tous cas" works as well (it's "anyway").

Just go to http://www.google.co.uk/language_tools?hl=en the site is very good for translating, it gives translations that are natural to natives unlike others.
