When someone refers to using a clove of garlic are they refering to the whole thing like you would buy in the store or just one of the individual pieces that breaks off of it?

My mistake - I read the recipe again & it said a bulb. It is baked with a roast & veggies then you sqeeze the garlic into butter & toss with the veggies. It still seems like the whole bulb would be too much??????

You would be surprised at how mild garlic is after it's roasted. When the bulb/head is cooked, the cloves squeeze out nice and soft - you can mash them with a fork. Mix the mashed garlic in with your mashed potatoes, or into butter for a flavored spread for Garlic Bread.

Just one piece that breaks off. The whole thing of garlic is a "head" or a "bulb". The cloves make up the bulb.

No. The whole piece that you buy in the store is called a head of garlic and the pieces that you break off are called cloves.

one individual piece. the whole thing is called a bulb. The clove needs to be peeled and (for the best flavour) at leashed smashed or crushed to help the oils infuse with the rest of the dish
