I live on a college campus. I found an iPod in a computer lab. I kept it and put up a sign saying I found it. But, since ANYONE can just see the sign and call me and say, "Yeah, that iPod's mine," even if it's not theirs, I wrote on the sign:

E-mail [my address] with the following information:
- model of iPod
- 5 songs on the iPod (beginning with "A" for convenience)
- any engravings, covers, decorations

Do you think that's reasonable? Or is there a better test that I could use? How should I arrange for us to meet to return the iPod?

that is smart, If I were you, after a person claimed it was theirs you could wait like 30 Days and see if someone else trys to claim it. also depending on what iPod it is some have like pictures on it and you could ask what they labeled the pics, or have them describe 1-2 pictures.

Hope this helps

oh yeah if you're sure that the person claims it you could meet at like a coffee shop when there are plenty of people.

This really is a brilliant idea! You could arrange (via email) for the 2 of you to meet in a neutral place (campus cafeteria, etc.) to return the Ipod...

this is getting so one won't have the ability to assert something devoid of offending somebody, yet Grandma used to bake up a huge, previous darkish fruitcake around Thanksgiving, wrap it up in cheesecloth soaked in rum, and bypass away it in a tin boc on a closet shelf 'till ultimately Christmas. Deeeeelish!

actually, what you did sounds the best. to be REALLY sure, perform a test that only the owner would know, like "what are your playlists" or "what band of yours has the most songs". Arrange to meet at like a starbucks or something.

I think you should ask to see the receipt, box or something like that, perhaps shipping info, and such. If it is the right color and such, and the model and 5 songs and engravings are correct, then give it to them.

That's a good idea, yet I would let them name any 5 songs, not just starting with A.
