If you decide to paint the walls, try painting the wood paneling one or two shades darker then the top of the wall. This will give a different effect. You may even try like a grey and and light slate blue with the trim in a stark white. Try painting the ceiling also, depending on the colour you choose, the room may look a little smaller, if that is an issue. Pictures and windows also can be played up for a dramatic effect. Try a rich fabric and let it drape the length of the wall. You may even allow it to be a little longer.
Another hint, If the room is really big attempt to divide it up. Try creating a conversation or reading area. This will allow you to use up the space by creating multiple intimate areas without the feeling as if you are in a warehouse with furniture spread everywhere.
And when all else fails, FRESH FLOWERS. Good Luck!!

Sure. Start with what you like. Pick a focal point (like your quilt, your curtains, a vase, a painting) or any other item that will be staying in your room. Choose the colors from this focal point. You will want to think about using 3 colors: 1 dominant one, 1 medium one and 1 accessorizing color. This will create harmony in the room. Once you've decided what colors you want to use, you'll have to decide if you're painting the wood panelling or not. If you start with something you already like, you'll find you really enjoy the room. Whatever you do, remember to have fun. And keep in mind that it's only paint. You can always paint over and it's the EASIEST & CHEAPEST way to makeover a room.

You could use warm colors like earth-red or brown to go with the wood-panelling. Add some framed photos of yourself and your loved ones.

The success of any decorating scheme depends on how well it suits all the members of your family. Gathering samples is a great way to begin. There are no hard or fast rules or must-do sequence for this process.

well, if u want it colorful, then pick a few of ur fav colors and put stripes or polka dots, etc. as for other decor, just put up posters or pictures, stuff like that. then for furniture, just pick out a chair or 2 and a bed you like, or use the one you have or whatever you wanna do, then just get sheets and comforters that have colors from ur walls. or just white or black. it'll be REALLY colorful.
