course of Xifaxan 2x a day, for bacterial overgrowth which recent studies are indicating might be the culprit of irritable bowel syndrome. This drug is given for 3 days for Travelers diarreah, however its prescribed for 10 days for the bacterial overgrowth.

My question is which of the following 2 other antibiotics would complement this antibiotic course better Metronidazol 500 mg or Ciproflaxin, these two are used to treat ameobas and parasites. I was given one back in Arpil when I got food poisoning in Mexico, and the other when I got a real bad case of diarreah in Mexico in July, while vacationing.

Please only people with experience, since I am attacking the bacteria, I feel it would be a good idea to attack any posibble remnants of ameobas or parasites, and just to be safer. I have heard that sometimes you could develop c.difficile after taking xifaxan and one of the other 2 might prevent this, also they have been given in conjuction before.

Why on earth are you not asking the doctor who prescribed the other drug????

Please talk with this doctor, before you mess up what he/she is trying to help you with! You're only going to make things worse if you ignore his/her treatment plan and decide to do your own thing.

I don't know the answer to this, but I've heard that course of Activa can do alot.

I agree with the other answerer that said it is best to ask the Dr. Sometimes they are hard to reach, and even harder to talk to. I know.

How about Web M.D.? They can really help, they are big, and very reputable. Also getting a second opinion can help. If you are in the middle of a course of therapy, and nothing negative has happened, it might just be best not to change horses in mid stream, ya know what I mean?

Alternative therapies can help. But first make sure proof positive they don't stop the medicine from working.

How much exercise are you getting? I ask, cause' just walking a half hour a day can make a big difference with digestion.

The motion of standing exerts gravity. Then whatever it is, it can't stay up there when it wants to come down. So it will.

How is you're sugar. I'm looking at a possible muscular neuropathy connection. So get those muscles going, gently.

With IBS, ya know you can't drink coffee, right? Some people do anyway, but it is formulated in the total wrong direction for you, it can create more spasms. Soothing things are was it needed.

Spasms can create much less desire to exercise. That is a downhill spiral.

Stay positive, instead!

Listen to Pangolin, she is correct. Do not self medicate, you will only cause more problems.
