Religion is destroying the world and needs to be stopped. Look around open your eyes. How many wars are going on right now that have religious elements to them? All of them.

Humans have a hard time controlling their passion - and religion is all passion, so when touched off it flashes, before actual thought can start. All these "mad" people are very normal fun family loving men and women - but religion is a touchy matter. Tied up in memories and emotions.
People use the words "ALL" and nothing is ALL. Many issues are percentages of the whole, connected to other issues. Issues are viewed by sex, age, wealth - and more - so passions rise fast - then the insult start.
Basically your seeing humans without the filter of civility - as you would being in the room with them.

Do not be surprised about this. Religion has allways been a controversial subject since the beginning of time. The first two brothers, Cain and Abel, because of difference in opinion in religion ended up as one being a victim and the other one being a murderer. This continued down the ages. But notice one thing very interesting.
The Bible says there are only two camps in the world. One is led by Jesus Christ, and the other by a powerful and perfect angel called Lucifer, also nicknamed the Father of Lies, Father of Murderer, Accuser, Adversary, Snake, Serpent, Dragon. (Isaiah 14:12-14; Ezekiel 28:12-15)
Jesus' motto is: "Love everyone even your enemies."
while the other party's motto is "Kill your enemies. Destroy everyone who disagree with you."
So whoever gets angry, and use harsh words and shows hatred instead of love, must be from the other party.

ever noticed how religion is the cause of many wars? its because religion is a hostile subject and provokes a lot of anger and rage. Pretty ironic though, considering how religion is normally supposed to support positivity. The reason the religion section is so hostile is because mostly everyone feels like they need to defend their religion, so they say negative things.

Religion & Spirituality... where lay thy difference?
Religion and Spirituality - what differentiates Religion from Spirituality?
Religion is "absolute truth of life" of the physical manifested world. It is Religion and not Spirituality which forms the basis of the present society we live in. In the present the needs for following a Religion being at its minimum... it is easy to follow any Religion. Anyone... even a layman can follow any Religion but not Spirituality?
What vastly differentiates Religion and Spirituality? Religion... if it forms the core of the physical manifested world... it is the Spirituality (the truth of our Soul within) which upholds the values in the society. Without Spirituality the physical manifested world cannot sustain for long but in the absence of religion... the society can survive on its own.
It is Spirituality (the truth of our real self... our Soul within) which forms the core of the cosmic world. The physical manifested world is a reality in terms of the senses (which guide every human being on its earthly journey). In the cosmic world... our physical manifested world does not hold good for there is nothing solid in the Cosmos. Everything in the Cosmos is made up of the basic building block of the Cosmos which comprise of atoms and molecules alone.
Religion is meant for passing of the physical manifested life in a meaningful manner. Unable to understand the nature of God... humanity has built for itself various religious centers all over the globe. These religious centers are they a mosque, temple or a church... provide a succor to the ever ailing society. They quench the thirst of an average human being... one who does not have time or the resources to contemplate directly on God the Almighty.
Indulgence in Spirituality is not meant for the average human being. To be able to fathom the depths of the Scriptures of the various religions of the world (the core truths of Spirituality)... one needs to dive deep into the pearls of wisdom contained in the various sacred Scriptures of the world. Spirituality is totally oblivious of a religion. In the field of Spirituality one need not go to a mosque, temple or a church in search of God. It is contemplation and only contemplation which shall lead one to God the Almighty. More on god here- http://www.godrealized.org/religion_and_spirituality.html

Usually, the asker is being condescending towards other religions, which spark the hostility in other users who don't like to be looked down upon because of their beliefs.

Because the anonymous nature of the Internet makes it easy to insult someone else while hiding behind a false name, where in real life, these same people would probably shrink away from confrontation.

I can't agree with saying "Buddhism sucks", but "God doesn't exist" is often the correct answer to the question asked. That's not hostile: it's simply honest.

It's the overflow off those shock questions that are constantly asked. Shock questions are just that; they don't require any serious or intelligent answer. The answers are usually retaliatory. So the attitude carries on at times to serious questions. imo.
