All religions tend towards totalitarianism and promote violence through promotion of intolerance. Christianity and other religoins have become diluted through the years. Islam was made a theocracy, so it stagnated more. Now that the Middle East is opening up more to the rest of the world, it's sectarian control of the public will weaken and Islam will become more peaceful. There are some growing pains, though. The zealots have a lot of power right now.
Still, the world would be much better off if all the religions, including Christianity, Judaism, and Islam just faded away. Religion tends to heighten group think and speads intolerance towards those with other religious beliefs.

Because of their unpeaceful actions. And then sort of like your question they act surprised when others look askance at them. You know it does not matter what is written in your koran, what matters is how you act. And the actions of Muslims in the last few years has been abominable. Do not say, its only a few. That is an unprovable thing to say. Who knows but what the silent majority goes right along with the ones doing the outragious acts.
