Once again we have an individual who has their facts all wrong. Jeus was convicted by the Sanhedrin of blasphemy -claiming to be God. The high priest tore his clothes after asking Jesus Christ if He were the Messiah, the Son of the living God. The only time, under their laws, a high priest was allowed to tear his clothes like this was when he heard blasphemy. The response of Jesus was ,"I Am". This is the exact same word used by the Almighty Himself in Exodus 3 when Moses asked for His name. And this was not the only time that Jesus invoked the personal Name of God for Himself. Jesus also claimed to be able to forgive sins, something only God can do, that He shared God's glory with the Father before the world began -when God said in OT He would not share His glory with anyone, and this is a statement of Christ's eternal existence- that He would sit and does sit at the right hand of God, making Himself equal with God, as was recognized by the Jews; that He alone had the power to lay down His own life and to take it up again; that He was the Good Shepherd -a claim made by the Almighty in the OT- that He was the only Saviour -a claim made by the Almighty in the OT- that He was the only Lord -a claim made by the Almighty in the OT. Jesus claimed to be omnipresent -something which can only apply to God -"Whereever 2 or 3 are gathered together in my name, there will I be in their midst". Jesus claimed His words had eternal authority -claimed by God, regarding His Word, in the OT-"Heaven and Earth will pass away, but my words shall never pass away". Jesus called Himself the "Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End" -claims made by the Almighty in the OT. Jesus Christ displayed powers, that were exercised under His own authority and His own name, which only the Almighty God could perform. Such as raising the dead, casting out demons, healing from a distance with only a word. Jesus commanded us all to have faith only in Him and His name for salvation -a claim made by the Almighty in the OT. In the Gospel of John doubting Thomas, after seeing the resurrected Lord himself, "worshipped" Jesus and exclaimed "My Lord and my God". If Jesus wasn't God He would've and should've immediately rebuked Thomas for his worship and his statement, but he didn't. In fact He did the opposite. "Because you have seen me, you believe; blessed are those who do not see and yet believe". Believe what? That Jesus is Lord and God, of course. And if Thomas was merely making an excited utterance then he was using the name of the Lord God in vain and Jesus would've and should've rebuked him for this, but He didn't. I could go on and on and on. Either Jesus was who He claimed to be, the Lord God in the flesh, or He was a liar or a lunatic- see Evidence That Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell.
" And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they have pierced; they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for his first born" -Zechariah 12:10. There is no question that this is the Almighty speaking in this verse, yet the Almighty clearly states that "they will look upon Me whom they have pierced". How is it possible to pierce -and the word used here means to be literally pierced to death- the Almighty? The only way this could occur is if the Almighty took on the form of a Man and allowed Himself to be pierced "for the sins of the whole world". This is exactly what is stated in the next few words of the same verse. "They will mourn for Him" and "grieve for Him".
The OT is full of accounts of the Almighty making physical appearances to people; including Moses in Exodus, Abraham, Jacob, Isaac, Hagar in Genesis etc etc etc etc. These same individuals knew that they had "seen God" and were terrified they would die as a result. Explain how it is possible for human beings to literally see God? The only way this is possible is if God takes on a phyisical form -Jesus Christ preincarnate.
The trinity is obvious from the 1st chapter of Genesis. Gen.1:26,27. Then God -plural word for God is used here- said let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness etc. Vs 27 So God -singular word for God used here- created man in His own image and after His likeness.
In Exodus 3 -read whole chapter- it states that "the Angel of the Lord" appeared and spoke to Moses from the burning bush. Without missing a beat this same portion of Scripture clearly shows the "Angel of the Lord" claiming the Name of the Almighty for Himself.
There are literally 100s and 100s of verses that clearly state that:
1. God Himself will visit the Earth and provide salvation
2. That the Holy Spirit is God and/or has all of God's attributes
3. That Jesus Christ is God and/or has all of God's attributes
4. That, even though there is only one true God, God is a plurality of Persons.
5. That God appeared in a literal physical manner to human beings.

I happened on the Yahoo link to your question, so here I am. I couldn't find a thread, so couldn't see any other responses to your question.

Jesus *did* claim to be God, according to the Bible. And He rose from the dead to prove it.

He didn't say, "I am God," but his enemies certainly understood his claim to deity. They didn't believe him, called it blasphemy, and had him killed. He forgave sin, which only God can do. He accepted worship. He said, "I and the Father are one."

I was first exposed to Jesus's claim to deity in the book More Than a Carpenter, by Josh McDowell. He set out to disprove Christianity and ended up a believer.

Rather than repeat McDowell's assessment of the issue, can I send you a copy of his book? Send your physical address to me at rick@gallipeau.com and I'll get one in the mail ASAP.

I explain how I became a believer at http://www.gallipeau.com/rick/meaning.htm.

I'd be glad to discuss any aspect of Christianity with you. Feel free to e-mail me.

Jesus IS NOT God the Father. He is God the Son- or the Son of God!

No need to convince you of anything. You have free will to choose as you like. Your choices are between you and God!
You should not ask others to judge you. There is only one judge that counts!
