Is there any particular reason why the pictures of these gods are always placed in the following sequence from Left to Right.
Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Vinayaga, Goddess Saraswati and Lord Murugan.

1.Vinayaka (Elder son of Siva)- You start any work or business only after worshipping Vinayaka.He gets the pride of place.
2. Lakshmi (wife of Vishnu) - symbol of Wealth
3.Saraswati(wife of Brahma)- symbol of Education/wisdom
4.Murugan (second son of Siva) - Tamil God (known as Karthikeya in the North)
All the three primary Gods are represented by the above four.
Vishnu will be seen in many houses in the form of Venkateshwara or Balaji.
Siva,Vishnu,Parvathi in their powerful avatars/forms who destroy evil forces are not kept at homes.

It depends on the family tradition and the tradition being followed in the region. There are six traditions-shanmatham- formulated and recognised by Adi Sankara. They are Saktam, (Sakti workship), Kowmaram (worship of Kumara or Murugan) Saivam (worship of Siva) Vaishnavam (worship of Vishnu), Ganapatyam (worship of Ganesha) and Sowmaram (worship of Surya or Sun)

Vinayaga is Vishnu (the supreme one, center of the universe, therefore in the center), and Lakshmi and Saraswati are his consorts (devis), on either side. Murugan is at the far right because he is the least senior of them all.

your observations are based on south india. Affinity towards forms are regional in nature.
Lord ganesh holds prime improtance in maharashtra and kirshna forms in gujrat and raam and hanuman in northen india...
The even forms do not matter, how can order of placing the idols matter?
As per traditional texts of 'karma kaand' (methods to offer pujas), There are five proncipal deities that every hindu should worship. Ganesh, Shiva, Vishnu,Devi and Surya.
Now there are various forms of these five basic deities...you can follow any based on cultural heritage of the region you live in...Bhrama, the creator is not worshiped anywhere except in Pushkar (near ajmer)...

i do not think there is any reason for this. first somebody hit upon the idea of selling pictures of deities which most people like . and may be he slected that order inadventantly. when others imitate the order came into existence i think

It is associated with the culture you are familiar with.
I have seen other god and Goddesses, presented in different orders.

the label Hinduism is name for many regional religions bought together under one name,the same as the Aramaic religions.Jews Christians and Muslim should be called Aramaic because they all have a common ancestor,they don't realize this and it amazes me that they argue and kill each other thinking there religions are different in the future they will truly merge and properly just be called Jews

like billay said, i believe they should be according to status.
there are thousands of hindu prophets as i call them [because hinduism actually is monotheistic] but i think some are more important then others.. like kirshna.

this is clearly shows the ignorance of the common people. God is one. he is the supreme. those who never see the vedas, or upanishads, or puranas(history) they conclude that all the forms are one i.e., one god can accept any forms like vinayaka, muruga, vishnu, siva, allah, jesus.
the original thing is no one in the list is the original cause of everything. people never wants to suffer. in case because of their karma they may forced to suffer. in that situation if someone helps them they may think that person is god or messenger of god. not only hindus but all the religious people's mentality is like this only.
please use your intelligence to understand our (living entities) position and the nature of god, methods to worship him.
