You can use whole milk or half and half, this will make give it a heavier body and richer flavor. I don't know what you like but marshmallows, Cinnamon, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and put it in a blender for a frozen hot chocolate, a little liquor like ameratto or kaluha.

drop a hershey's kiss into the bottom of the mug, then add the hot milk and powered mix. If the milk is good and hot, you can melt the kiss and mix it into the drink.
Try Mexican Hot Chocolate. Go to the ethnic food aisle at you local store and look for a box of chocolate called "Abuelita" or "Mi Abuela", This is solid chocolate. You break off a piece, and put it in a blender with the hot milk or half and half. Blend it for just a few seconds and the drink will be hot chocolatey and frothy like a latte.

Flavoring syrups that you would usually see added to Coffees at a coffee shop:
An excerpt from "Hot Chocolate with a Twist" - follow link below for full article:
"So, back to the newly opened Java Joint at my bus stop. I asked the lady if she was “game” for a special order. She had one customer seated with his latte and no one in line.
She responded, “Sure!”
I asked her to make up her equivalent of a Vente Hot Chocolate but add in a Vente sized pour of Blackberry Syrup. The look on her face was priceless. It resembled that look when one imagines a night with a well-experienced lover. That look conjures up a new commercial. “This is Zen wrapped in Karma drowning in chocolate stirred with blackberry good.” "
Watch the calories, though, they hard to reign in on these!

marshmellows, add a cinnamon stick to the milk while its cooking to add a bit of flavour - my favourite and is lovely!, add a vanilla bean/vanilla pod to the milk while its cooking (remove - as with the cinnamon stick - before drinking)
