Try a carpet warehouse. Many times they have extra pieces which are left over from jobs they have done in instaling. They will normally give discounts. Make sure you tell them what it is for because that may give evenmore of a discount. Call them first to make sure they have a scrap section then go personally to negociate. I have friend who carpeted her childs room like this/.

Call around to local carpet stores and ask about carpet remnants. These are the parts of big rolls of new carpet that were installed in homes and businesses that were left over. Make sure you know the measurements you need when you call. I'd also suggest Walmart. They have some big carpet remnants all wrapped up for pretty cheap. About 20-50 bucks I think.
Good luck!

Well, I've had lots of success getting stuff for free by being honest and asking for it. If you go to a carpet store (a small local one is better) and you tell them you need it for your classroom, that if they give it to you for free or next to nothing (they sometimes have extra that has been discontinued or is the end of the roll and can't really sell it) and you tell them you'll put a nice big sign in the class or the school saying their store is the sponsor for the carpeting, you might just get lucky... I did with tables.

This is actually a pretty good deal if you can work it ....Any of your class have parents that might be in the carpet laying? I have gotten" Free" nice carpet... coming out of mall stores. When remodeling.the carpeting gets torn up and thrown out and it may only be 6 months old. I completely carpeted a 3 bedroom hose with used carpet from THE GAP

Try an exhibition fitter company. Tell them you would like some carpet. These guys mostly dump the carpet after the exhibition.

if you have a hobo home improvement store around or a home depot for their cheap stuff it might cost 10-20$ for a 10'x10' piece
