Shouldn't be. Just supervise them and make sure they don't choke or chew on it until their gums bleed.

IMO, Yes. Some dogs may do fine with rawhides but many are sensitive to it as it often contains a lot of bacteria. Compressed rawhides often have Formaldehyde in them.
Puppies and dogs can chew off and swallow large pieces which can cause problems. If you are giving your puppy rawhides, I wouldn't get your pup used to having them all the time. Maybe balance out rawhide treats with other kinds like "Kong" toy you can put stuff in for chewing fun, or Nylabones that can be replaced when the ends are worn down.
I have a Pit Mix that loves her Gallileo Nylabone and flavored Nylabones. With the regular large flavored Nylabones I throw them away when the ends are worn down because then I know the dog won't swallow the center.
Maybe I am being too careful, but I lost a GSD who reacted badly to rawhides.

Yes, potentially. It is really not good for dogs at any age due to the fact that it can be a choke hazard. It, too, can also cause intestional blockage. If you still choose to feed these the rule of thumb is to make sure that the size of the rawhide is appropriate for the size of the dog (not to SMALL). A better alternative is something akin to a "greenie" which also benifits a dogs overall dental health.

solid rawhide, when chewed off in chunks, can sit in their bellies, causing constipation or diahreea. Give it to him for a little while, until it gets soft, then take it away. that's when they start tearing it off in chunks and can also choke on it. Puppies chew so franticly sometimes...Try some that are like chips, kind of pressed together. Its in their belly in smaller pieces. Also try some other kind of hard rubber chew toy. Or just go to the goodwill and buy a bunch of stuffed toys for super cheap, and let the puppy tear the cr@p out of it and clean it up afterwards. Good luck!

You would be best off using things acually made for puppies rawhide isn't really good for any dog puppie or adult if it's a young teathing puppy then puppy chew toys or even frozen carrots and things like that work great

My vet said "rawhide" is actually very good for dogs' teeth, just make sure when you buy it the bag says it is digestible, most dogs eat them right up! My dogs' teeth have improved increasingly by chewing these rawhide "chewies" as my dogs know them, but the kind that isn't digestible hurts their stomachs.

no rawhide is perfectly fine for puppies and adult dogs. it just depends on the dog

The best thing to give them is a real thick beef bone with no sharp edges. He'll enjoy that for hours and probably hide or bury it and come back to it when he wants more. Ask your butcher for one, if he knows you, he may give you one for free.

Yes. It doesn't digest very well and can tear their intestines up. A close alternative that is safe is pig or cow ears. They are easy to digest and get real soft when your pet chews on them.

No, they can be good for them. Just make sure that they don't get to small and choke on them. If the whole thing can fit in their mouth then it is to small.
