dear caramel highlights,
Im a hairdresser and in my experience you can't always get the color your looking for when your coming from a dark brown color.. there is a few levels your hair has to get through to get the caramel color to look right and sometimes your hairdresser has to catch it looking just right..ie the caramel. and then somtimes the ends of the hair hasn't lifted out right and there still a reddish color so we (hairdressers)have to let you process longer to get the even color..
When buying from a store the box of color or highlight isn't self timed which means it may continue to process and you might not even know when to take it off..This is not a lose lose situation but it is better to go to a professional and just be very clear that your looking for caramel and if it seems to light just give it a few days and the color itself will tone down on its own..goodluck

I like to play at home and try some diff things, I have blond hair and am experimenting with putting some "low lites" in my hair now.
Find a color that you like, and then do a test piece that isn't visible, I like to pull color thru a cap, but only a few at a time when I find that the trial piece has turned out ok. I figure I can't ruin it any worse than they do! A test strand is the key tho so you can see what it will look like.

I have dark brown hair too... and although I haven't had it color corrected... I've always done my highlights myself. Theres a highlighting kit made by Revlon and its in a tan box and runs from about $6-8..and although you may be scared, I've always used it and they turn out great. Just don't do anything you're uncomfortable with, and if you really want them and are scared, just stick with the salon. Good luck!

honestly, i actually dont think you should do anything that drastic. get some honey okker highlights or something. because if you want platinum blonde hair, you are going to have to bleach the actual heck out of it.

Whatever looks best on a person is what they should wear. As for my taste in men, We usually go for brunettes from several reason, never gingers and rarely blondes.
