My son is 21 and has no medical insurance. If he gets sick or hurt and has to go to the hospital, who pays and how does that work? Can they reject him outside the door even if he is bleeding? or what??? Thanks

The definitely would never reject him at the door. I cut myself pretty badly while visiting France and was treated with no problems. I didn't pay a penny while there, I received a bill for $30 once back in the states. Not bad for stitches.

If he is working in France, he should be covered by the national healthcare system. When you begin a job, you fill out a form that gets you into the system then receive an insurance card by mail that can be used for medication, trips to the hospital etc.

I was told by a friend who live is France that everybody who works there automatically gets health insurance and from what I understood they also have a Medi-cal type program available. I wouldnt worry too much, he's better off there if he gets hurt without having insurance than if he got hurt here in the US.

My daughter was injured in Italy (stepped on some glass, needed stitches). She went to a local ER and had her foot sutured. It cost about $10.00 -- believe me, we are the only country whose health care is more than obsene. But that's a whole different subject.

They will treat him, but he is responsible for the bills.
