When you put the bread into the toaster it is not dry it contains moisture and when it is heated up in the toaster the moisture in it gets heated too. Its this heated moisture leaving the toast that leaves the the moisture mark or sweat mark as you put it. The moisture evaporates out of the hot toast from been heated. If you were to take the toast out into cold air like a frosty moring you would see steam coming off it. When placed down the surface is cooler than the toast so it condenses the evaporating moisture onto it.
If you break the toast in half straight after its come out of the toaster you will find it still moist and soft on the inside. This moisture leaving the toast in the form of water vapor that leaves the sweat mark and also makes the toast dry after a couple of minutes. If you were to hold the toast over a boiling kettle it will reabsord the moisture its lost and eventually feel like a slice of bread again although a different colour.

Sometimes you can see the steam rising from the moist bread while it's toasting; but aside from that would you not sweat if you were in a toaster ?

the warm air inside the bread holds water - moisture from the bread. As it cools this water condenses, just like on a glass window in a warm room on a cold day.

it is condenstation being diffused to an area of low concentration
or under the toast it doesn't escape above the toast(in the air) because that area has high concentration

I think it is the condensation of moisture escaping the toast (you heated it, and it had moisture...that moisture gets trapped and can't leave like the other side...).

STEAM AND HEAT ...don't lay it down put in toast rack stays crisp other wise it gets soggy.
