I was listening to this song 3 minutes ago and something just made me feel sorry/guilty for not believing in god. Does this mean I'm turning into a believer....again? I really don't want this to happen, I still want to be an atheist, but why would I feel like that?

To thinker: I'm not lying, I'm dead serious, and now I sort of feel like crying. I don't want to belive in "god", he's not real, it's weird how I felt like that.

Ok, it's gone now, thanks to everyone who answered, but to those of you who said that I got that feeling because I know deep down inside that god exist, sorry but you're wrong. I'm still an atheist, and I will continue to find reasons to add to me Reasons-God-Doesn't-Exist list.

Sometimes I miss that comforting feeling of thinking there's some point to all this... that there's a god who loves me no matter what, and of course the whole church "family" thing... it's a comfortable place to be, and always a source of friendship and belonging.

It's hard to give that up... and sometimes it's a lonely world to live in. But you have to do what feels right for YOURSELF...

Because deep down you know what is right.
You know there has to be a God, it is logical.

Today, many people call themselves atheists and it is frequently argued that atheism is the only rational viewpoint. However, it is also often said that there is no such thing as a real atheist. This is supported by the Bible which declares: “only a fool says in his heart that there is no God.”
So which view is correct?
If we give a just little thought to this matter, we can see that there is no argument at all as to whether the qualities and properties usually attributable to God actually exist. This is certain and beyond dispute. So really the only disagreement is over the source or origin of these attributes.
Furthermore, we can see that there are only 2 possible alternative sources of these attributes. It is self evident that something material can never come out of (absolute) nothing of its own accord (First Law of Thermodynamics). We know that something material exists (i.e. the universe), therefore something must have always existed, something must be eternal and have had no beginning. This eternal something, can only be: 1. A force or power independent of the material, and thus the Creator of the material, OR 2. The material itself.
So an eternal nature must be possessed by, EITHER:
1. A Supernatural Power.
OR
2. Matter/energy.
Consequently, all the other qualities, powers and potentialities which exist in the universe must be attributable only to ONE OR OTHER of these two alternative 'eternal' sources.
Some of the qualities existing in the material world.
Laws of Nature, Information & means of information storage (DNA etc.), Life, Design, Order, Motion, Love, Choice, Good, Beauty, Emotion, Intelligence, Kindness, Personality, Morality, Awareness, Justice, Wisdom, Hope, Joy, skill, etc. There is no disagreement that these qualities are present in the universe. The only dispute is over the source or origin of these qualities.
SO
Is the stuff of the universe (matter/energy) eternal? Does this 'eternal matter' intrinsically possess all the above qualities, or the inherent potential to produce them of its own volition?
OR
Is there a power greater than, pre-existing and independent of, the material? A Supernatural Creator of the material, possessor and originator of all the above attributes evident in the material creation?
IT CAN ONLY BE ONE OR THE OTHER
SO THIS IS THE ONLY DISAGREEMENT, AND IT IS AN AGE, OLD DISAGREEMENT.
No atheist would attempt to claim that mankind is the originator of all these qualities. We are not eternal, we did not create ourselves or the universe, something greater than us essentially exists'. Is that something a Supernatural Creator God? Or a purely material power which must intrinsically possess all the qualities, powers & potentialities usually attributed to a Supernatural Creator God?- - A material god? - - A pagan god!
THEREFORE, THE CHOICE IS CLEAR,- - FACE THE FACTS!- - ATHEISM (or even agnosticism) IS NOT AN OPTION. YOU MUST PAY HOMAGE TO A POWER WHICH IS GREATER THAN YOURSELF, either; The Creator God of the Bible, or; the material pagan god or gods' (represented by: Mother Earth, Nature, the Sun, Moon, or idols of stone, wood etc.) which you must necessarily imbue with the SAME ATTRIBUTES.

SO NOW CHOOSE YOUR GOD?

My personal problem with Atheists and Fundamentalists is that they refuse or are unable to see the middle road.

Fundamentalist preach what they believe to be "ultimate truth." The difficulty with this is that it negates any kind of progress either in our physical reality or in the potential of human spiritual development. The road stops here. There's the road-block. Do not attempt to go any further.

Atheists work from the extreme opposite end by unfortunately manifest the same attitude. There is no god. Period. To say otherwise, given the body of scientific knowledge we have accumulated thus far, indicates that you are beyond all hope and are completely ignorant. Again. The road stops here. Do not attempt to go any further.

There is a middle road. One that acknowledges human spirituality. One that recognizes the ultimate creativity of human consciousness.

We are almost unfathomable sensory machines that can take in billions of bits of information at any given moment. We process that information and act upon it. But its in the "how," the way in which we act on this information that connects to our creativity and spirituality.

We are the creators of our reality. Being a creator means that a significant part of us can be associated with some kind of divine influence. It is entirely up to us to decide whether or not that influence is external or internal. To my way of thinking, it is a combination of both.

Given that human consciousness is acting on a cellular level, it is internal. By a simple shift in paradigm, we can either act positively on the information processed or we can act negatively. The choice is ours to make. To create. At the same time...

Who is the Observer? Science has found mountains of information on the human brain through PET and CAT scans - seeing the brain firing and determining what function is being accessed and simulated - but the "who" of "who are we" has never been found. The Observer, to this day, is a complete mystery. Consequently, the idea that there is also some external influence. Is it god? Or are we beings that operate as both physical beings with some kind of energetic body (perhaps external) pulling the marionette strings of our creative purpose and action?

My thinking here is, perhaps as an Atheist, you were hooking into your spiritual/creative nature. Be it cellular or external, the point is moot. Be it god or the internal body politic, again. Who really cares? They are simply labels. But not recognizing your divine nature as an Atheist, could well be the source of your sad and guilty feelings. You are not recognizing fully your ability as a creator and the limitless possibilities that are at your fingertips.

In this, Fundamentalists and Atheist are the same. Both refuse to recognize something of monumental importance. With that in mind...

Is it not better to look at the middle road? Is it not better to welcome everything that life has to offer? And from there, creating a magnificent reality to enjoy to the fullest?

God will never let you go. By you saying . . . . again . . . . that's infers you were once a believer . . . . . we are spiritual beings. You were born in his image and he loves you. He will never leave you or forsake you. That sorry or guilty feeling is called conviction. You are on a fish line way out in the middle of the lake and he is reeling you in.

Simply ask forgiveness for your sins. Ask him to reveal himself to you and that his will be done in your life. The Holy Spirit will do the rest. He seems to be doing something right now.

Why would you feel like that? Because God loves you more than you know and wants you to come back to him.

God Bless and I will pray for you.

Why would you want to turn your back on the truth and be an atheist? The reason you are feeling guilty is that your conscious is telling you that you are in the wrong. Each and every person has a certain void in them that they are trying to fill by tobacco, alcohol, drugs, sex and other things. That void can only be filled by God. Therefore when you heard that song, the inner being of yours was telling you that you need God to fill that empty feeling within you. That what you are trying to fill by being an atheist.

If you are an atheist, then you never were a believer, or at least not a true Christian. If you're feeling guilt now, maybe God is giving you another chance to accept the truth that you once knew, but shunned.

I was a believer, then turned to wicca--vowing there was no one God and Jesus Christ. Then a friend kept trying to get me to church--I laughed at her. About this time, my hubby and I was trying to have a baby. 10 months went by-no luck. I kept doing spells and thought that the gods would answer me. Finally, one night, i was up late, depressed and crying(the doctor told me earlier i was infertile). I yelled at God, cursed at Him, fell back onto my couch. While crying I heard Him say<"thought you didn't believe in Me?" I thought i was crazy, and began to laugh. Then I was so exausted, and said back to Him,"Lord, if YOU want me to have a child fine, if you don't fine...but you're going to have to prove yourself to me..." 4 Months later, I was pregnant-with a boy that I wanted! I delivered him 6 months later with out complications. The doctor said it was 2 miracles, turned out I had a heart condition that should have killed me when i was pregnant, but didn't. It 's all fixed now. I praise my Lord Jesus everyday!!! As you can see, you can leave Jesus, but He will not leave you. He is with you all the time, waiting for you to come back.

I would love to see you become a believer in God, but actually that is the nature of music, it fabricates feelings. Everyone uses it to make them feel better. Nothing to do with religion is is a physiological thing.

Before God we all stand guilty and condemned. Should it surprise you if this partially breaks through occasionally ? Sadly most people try to push this away to their cost. But God, in His mercy to people, pricks them of their need and prompts them to seek Him.
