The thought came to me as I was trying to go to sleep. I had been looking at photos of my ancestors and relatives and I wondered how much of them was me. Is there something I am that they were not.? Where could this piece come from? Could there be a mathamatical equation that showed what pieces of them added up to me.

You show that we are all pieces of each other since we are all related. Should one use the term, "merely"? This is something remarkable.

Genetically you are made up from DNA from your ancestors. But you are unique because there is not another person exactly like you and never has been nor never will be. Your personality, thoughts, likes/dislikes, pleasures, pet peeves, emotions, beliefs are all yours.

But we aren't merely the makeup of our ancestors, we are God's creation. We were designed out of love and designed to love and learn. Peace!

Genetically we seem to inherit most of the genes that our ancestors had. Through the different generations, though, there may be modifications in our genetic structure that may bring as a consequence those peculiarities we may have.

However, some of this peculiarities may also be the consequence of the environment which we are living in that help to build our character.

But you can be sure that some of your genes are identical to the genes of your old relatives.

DNA changes during your lifetime. IT isn't entirely up to Darwin.

Food and other environmental factors make up a great deal of it.

See what I'm saying?
In addition to DNA patterns, you are chemicals and electrical impulses. Those other elements make you just as much as your DNA does. Anything that affects those elements is as much of an input as geneology, i.e., significant life-altering events, day-to-day events, nutrition, the excercise-mental connection, etc.
