This is my second time getting constipated. The first time I took Metamucil, and it worked within 3 days or so. Does anyone know anything I can take over-the-counter that will cause me to have an immediate bowel moment, like within the same day or the next day? I need something faster than metamucil! Please help!

Laxatives work fast but are really bad for you because your body becomes dependant on them for you to go regularly. It is a better idea to change your diet. Start eating more fruits and vegetables and whole grains. Salads are even better. Now there is a fiber that you can add right to the food you are cooking..it is tasteless and so you can add it to anything...your juice, pasta sauce, muffins, whatever you'd like, and adds more fiber to your diet.
Also try drinking more fluids.
If doing that doesn't help, you should really talk to your doctor.

Immediate bowel movement - try a dulcolax (bisacodyl) suppository or a Fleet enema (if you can get 'em).
But make sure you make those dietary changes already mentioned - and you might try cutting out (or at least reducing) dairy products, which upset a lot of peoples' digestive systems.

I would say Prune juice or Ex lax. I don't know how to spell it but there are plenty of over the counter meds that say they will give you gentle relief over night. Good luck.

Try pear and/or prune juice.
