Three students go into a shop to buy a television.
The TV cost £30
The shop manager says to his assistant"they are only students here's £5 just charge them £25"
But the assistant puts £2 in his pocket, and tells the students that it is reduced by £3
Each student pays £9
the assistant pockets £2
what happened to the other pound.?

The students only think they've paid £27
What they've actually paid is £25 for the television (£8.33 each)
What they are actually due in change is £5 (£1.67 each)
What the assistant has done is give the students £1 each, pocketed the remaining £2 thus creating the illusion that the students have paid £9
The trick is that the students have paid £25 for the television plus £2 commission to the assistant.
Hope this explains things. Scotty xxxxxxxxxx

You take off the £2 that the assistant pocketed not add it because you have taken off the £1 from each of the three students. Therefore £27 paid by students less £2 for assistant = £25.

there is no extra pound the shopkeeper takes 2 so there is 3 pounds change off of the 30 (27)pound tv so each student pays 9 pounds (9X3=27) then the guy pockets another 2 (27-2=25) so then the guy will think the students only payed 25

If the price is reduced by 3 pounds, the assistant should pocket 3 pounds, not 2.

Stop it. You're confusing me too.

I'm going to have to have a can of cider and a ciggie now to calm me down. See what you've done?
