I really want to quit smoking ... but, it's hard. I know that keeping busy helps to take your mind off of your cravings.... but, I'm disabled, so I'm home all day. I am able to do minimal exercise and go for short walks but, it's hard for me to keep busy ... as it eventually catches up with me.
What, in your opinion, is the most successful (not easiest) way of quitting smoking? The patch, nicotine gum, Wellbutrin or cold turkey?

the desire to stop.. stubborn dedication.. and moderation.
slow decreasing... start at working you way to cut your intake in half.. then stick with it.. and once you reach that goal stick with that goal for a while.. it's like with a diet.. go about it slow.. it's much more successful...
if you cheat you will fall behind....
your body gets used to things and it will fight like a mofo to maintain the routine...
go about it slow.
also eating right will help.. cuz soon as your body notices a change you'll feel weird... tired.. worn out.. uptight.. nervous.. tingly.. whatever will happen... just plentify your body.. nourish it.
it will help.
water.. hobbies.. exercise.. getting out a tad.. fresh air will help.. chewing gum also helps.
:D
take up painting.. or something you always was curious about or wanted to do.
:D
hell.. help with the community at times.. this xmas.. why not do some soup kitchen stuff.. or a charity.. family cause or something the city is doing where you can chip in some time and effort.. that'll do alot also...
believe me!
be inventive.. cutting back just doesn't mean cutting back.. and trying not to start again.. it means you can do things... start something new.. try new stuff.. anything to change that routine and lifestyle.
and help boost the way you feel and boosting your emotions also helps with quitting, improving circulation... stimulates the immune system along with many other things.
:D
good luck.

I know when my grandmother stopped smoking after 20 some years she just stopped. She saw her friends around her dying and didn't want that for herself so she quit cold turkey. I don't think everyone can do this but there has to be something else you can do to keep your hands busy. She tried to find something that she liked to do at home. Can you knit or sew, crochet maybe. If you can do any of these things it will keep your hands busy and maybe make you forget about your need. Try chewing sugarless gum to keep your mouth busy also. I am not trying to be gross but there is some dependency with the need to keep your mouth and hands moving because of the previous behaviors. If you could sew or crochet then you could make blankets or something like that for hospitals (like the prenatal units) or even for a retirement home. That will keep you busy for awhile. Good luck to you. I hope this helps.

The patch helped me and I quit a yr ago. The gum I wanted to chew it all the time and it made me sick. Wellbutrin made me gain lots of weight. Use the patch and buy some hard candy. when you crave get the hard candy. The first week or so will be the hardest but if you can get past the first week or so you will make it. Good luck!!!!

I have never smoked but have watch 2 close friends go through the process. 1 tried it all and nothing worked, finally he woke up and said "enough"! and hasn't had a smoke for 18 years. The other tried everything and still could quit. Last year they found a spot on his lung and the next day he said "enough"!
Good luck. There probably nothing more important you can do for yourself and your loved ones than to quit.

If you go cold turkey your body might react with it in a bad way, because your body is probably use to the nicotine and just going cold turkey is going to make you want it more so gradually ease your way out of it.

I actually just recently quit cold turkey. I just thought about my life, I'm young and I don't want to start ruining myself so early in life, that was my basic motivation. My mother recently quit as well and she took up crocheting and painting and different things like that which keep you focused and busy.

Cold turkey. You just have to really want to quit, and you must think of it as failure if you cannot, and you must hate yourself for that failure and love yourself enough to not hurt yourself and others around you(we breathe the air too) that way anymore. Also, thinking the big tobacco fat-cats are not getting your money anymore, that should hopefully help.

First you have to want to quit. It took me 9 months to make up my mind to quit. then quit cold turkey, it was very hard but keep your mind focused that you will feel so much better, AND cigarettes will not control you. GOOD LUCK!!

well find a candy that you like and instead of taking a drag eat the candy, malted milk balls, m&m's, and small hersheys squares work well. but ive heard that cold turkey is the hardest but the best way to go ive seen people go through it.
