Enlistment is down in every branch of the Armed Forces. How long can the same troops be expected to serve before being replaced with new troops? Without a draft where are those troops going to come from?

I'm old enough to remember getting my draft number for the Viet Nam war, does that qualify?

yes I agree the draft would help, but the last time it went on for 15yrs.
the troops we have are doing the job.

Here's something congress should do. Every male out of high school should have to serve at least 2yrs. in the military. This way the military would aways be at full power. And these kids would have a job when they got out. Jobs would be there.

You also know the quality level of draftees who have no desire to be there, in the first place. The draft, when it becomes necessary, will be implemented by the selective service with signals from the Pentagon. At that point in time, no political party will have much voice in the matter.

Sure enlistment is off, who in their right mind wants to go and get their @ss shot off? However, the services are making headway and people continue to enlist. Why just last week, I was advised by the Marine Corps to plan on assisting in a PFT for 350 recruits. That's a whole bunch of guys who are getting ready to ship out to boot camp, hell that's damn near a half of a battalion, and this is from an area that you wouldn't think could muster up that many grunts, for the smallest of services, except for the Coast Guard.

We have unlimited resources for volunteer enlistment, they just need a little persuasion!

If you've ever lived in a time of the draft it is horriable. The draft is not a good military bunch cause many don't want to go and they aren't fighting for something they believe in. They generally have a low morale and aren't as effective.

They believe that an all-volunteer army will be more effective then a bunch of draftees who don't want to be there and will likely try to disobey

We have enough troops as it is, if we need a draft later, they will set one up, we dont need one right now.

As long as the military itself is insisting that they do not want or need a draft I do not understand why anyone would be considering it.
