Basicly its your choice, but you might want to make sure your dog now wants a friend. Make sure he can handle sharing everything with you. You don't want them at each others throats all the time. I know that at my local humane society you can get a dog and in 30 days if it does not work you can take it back. That is a suggestion. If you do however get a dog, you should get a puppy, therefore, the dog you have now is not threaten. The younger they are the easier other dogs can get along with them.
Good Luck

While you may find yourself with a problem getting two dogs, it has been shown that two dogs amuse each other and get into less trouble than one by itself. Your dog will more than likely be happy to get a friend to play with. Id say start with keeping them in seperate rooms when youre gone, however, until you know how they will react with one another. You dont want to think everything is hunky dory and come home to a bleeding pooch.
In general, its going to take time. But if your dog and the new dog's personality match up okay, you'll have two lifelong friends instead of one. And who doesnt want double puppy love?

We have an 8 year old black lab and last year we got a black lab puppy. I regret it. The younger one does not have the same temperment at all. The older one is annoyed by him. It has just kind of disrupted the previous harmony of our home, and I am not happy about it. But my husband won't let us get rid of it and he says the younger one (who is about a year and a half old) will grow up and get better. I doubt it. From my own experience I couldn't really advise getting another one if you are happy now. It's a risk.

If your lab gets along well with other dogs why not? I know my dog gets jealous when another dog comes around and I give it attention.

Yes labs are good with other dogs and yours will probably be very happy with a playmate.

I think you should. Some possibilites is going to a animal shelter and getting one before they put another dog to sleep. Since if they are not adopted before a certain time, they put them to sleep.

if your current dog seems lonely, it might be a good idea. but when you get one they might become too attached, so if you decide you wont want to keep her, be wise about it.
