Write some Happy Mail for sick kids. This involves sending greeting cards, notes, etc. to sick children (some of them terminally ill) so that they know that someone cares. You can do this right from home, and I don't think it involves a lot of money.

Call Salvation Army or any of your Womens Shelters, or if you love animals call the Humane Society and find out if they need help for a few hours on Christmas Day. I'm sure you'll find someone that will need help, maybe serving Xmas dinner to the homeless or being an elf for kids at a womens shelter or someone to help feed the animals a pet shelter or vetrinery clinic. Even Churches could have ideas, maybe you could spend a few hours with an eldery shut in and make their Christmas day brighter. I think that giving your time is more valuable than money especially on a day like Christmas when so many people feel lonely. good luck in finding the place that touches your heart.

How about going to do community service to the Homeless shelter? That would be a great place to give time and effort. You could give out gifts and food for all the people in need. Good luck! Have a great and Merry Christmas!

Go to the salvation army website and plug in your area code to look for local opportunities. Most people only want to volunteer on the holidays, so you may have to sign up and reserve a spot.
Most humane societies tend to ban pet adoptions on the holidays, as to undue stress on animals, and animals as gifts are often returned shortly after the holidays.
You could go to the mall and entertain children waiting to have their pics taken with santa, or you could go to a local church and see if they will be hosting a free dinner to the needy where you could help serve them and do some cooking or cleanup.

Go to youre local soup kitchen and help feed the homeless. Try the local humane society. Also you might want to check and see if their are any elederly folks in youre neighbor hood that does not have any family left, you.might go over and spend some time with them. this is very hard time of the yr. when you are by yourself. But then we should do this all the time, not just for the holidays.

Humane society, and especially a nursing home needs people to help feed the residents at meal times. But if that doesn't appeal to you, you could try a mission that helps the homeless by making meals for them.
