Cool question. That’s kind of hard to answer because it’s just like imagining any kind of future. Boy, I think it could be pretty peaceful around here with out religion mucking things up.
Well, I suppose we would be able to focus our attention on more important things like hunger, famine, and poverty. I think there would be much more money to go around to other projects. Just think of all the money that goes into building churches and gets pocketed by religious leaders. I think about that money going into endeavors to further our scientific advancement.
As for what would happen to the buildings and churches… Some would be torn down and others would be converted into other things.
It’s like John Lennon’s song. I think it would be a more peaceful planet.
Wow! It’s disturbing to see how many Christians out there are only moral because they fear hell and hope for heaven. :(
Don’t any of you just do the right thing because it is the right thing???

Why would something take its place?
People would do whatever they wanted to instead of praying and going to church. The buildings that were once places of worship would be converted into whatever their owners thought might be useful or profitable. Some of the older ones would probably be kept as historical buildings. Many would probably be sold. The pope et cetera would get real jobs. People would fight about all their other differences. We'd argue about whether abolishing religion was a good move.

Well lets start with the religion of money, and see what happens. Just to make sure that no one is worshiping in secret we could eliminate personal accumulation and keep a sharp look out for people counting it. We should seta large sum as maximum accumulation amount like say 1 mil.. We could try it for 10 years and maybe see where it goes from there. Just having a top end would probably affect many other religions as well since they would have to spend there donations on other things besides capital investments.. No reason chuches could not be held to the personal acumulation max as well. Maybe it would stop a lot of waste and everyones standard of living etc. would raise.

You assume people would be willing to go along with your pogrom. Consider the history of the Jewish people - people have been trying to suppress their religious beliefs for about four thousand years since the time of Pharoah, from Antiochus Epihpanes to Torquemada, to Josef Stalin and Hitler.
And yet despite all the anti-religion activists targeting them, the world still has Jews.
Don't fool yourself into thinking it will work out any different for anyone else. Ain't gonna happen.
It is ironic, however, that specifically-human ethical and political systems - ones that deliberately eliminate from their constructs any appreciation of transcendence - routinely collapse into depraved and monstrous inhumanity, as was the case with communism. Under that banner, atheism took more life in the last century than have all religions put together since time began.

The book of Revelation foretells this will happen in the near future. The "wild beast" (all governments now in power) will turn against all of Christendom and religion in general. The governments will completely destroy all facets of religion. This will mark the beginning of Armegeddon. Then God will put an end to all governments, false religion and anyone associated with them. Only his heavenly government will remain and it will rule over the earth forever. (Daniel 2:44)

I think it would be better if you were more specific. Instead of the general term religion. Too much of a broad based question.

I don't like the idea of it being abolished. It would just go underground and cause all its same problems below the radar. I'd prefer that superstition die out entirely on its own. Unfortunately that is not likely to happen: Magical thinking and superstition are easier to grasp than logic or physics.

Religion is moot if you are not worshipping and serving the Almighty God and accept His son Jesus as your personal Savior. Are you in service to a particular "religion and their rituals" or the Almighty God of whom you can serve in the open and not behind a room with four walls and a door?

Religion is superstition. If it was gone, it could be replaced by many things:
1) Reason, logic, and evidence
2) Other superstition
3) Patriotism
