Cut your beef into 1 inch cubes and coat in flour and salt and pepper. Pan fry then in the stew pot in a little oil to sear them. Cover the meat in water (no deeper than the meat level in the pan). Add a package of onion soup mix. Cover and simmer for about 4 or 5 hours. After the first hour cut up onion, turnip, carrot or any other root veggies to add in. Yummy. Save me a seat!

Beef Stew

Ingredients:

1 pound cubed beef stew meat
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon paprika
salt and pepper to taste
1 1/2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
1 onion, chopped
3 carrots, sliced
1 stalk celery, sliced
2 potatoes, cubed
1/2 pound mushrooms, quartered
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 bay leaf
1 1/2 cups beef broth
1/2 cup peas

Preparation:

Place beef stew meat into a slow cooker.

In a small bowl, mix together the flour, paprika, salt and pepper; sprinkle over the stew meat, stirring to coat.

Stir in the rest of the ingredients except the peas. Cover and cook on low 6 hours, stirring occasionally. Add the peas in the last hour.

Lightly flour your chunks of stew meat in flour mixed with salt and pepper. Brown in a frying pan in a little bit of oil. You don't have to cook it all the way through, just brown the outside. Dump your meat in the crock pot. Now pour some beef broth into the frying pan and loosen all the bits of stuff stuck to the pan. (This step is important to the flavor of the stew!) Pour that broth and any other that it takes to cover all the meat, around 6 cups, into the crock pot.

At this point I add seasonings.... I use fresh thyme, which compliments beef, two peeled cloves of garlic, a little Worcestershire sauce, and a packet of beef stew seasoning, which you can find in the seasonings aisle with the chili seasoning and gravy mixes. I also add a packet of brown gravy mix.

I cook this for about 2 hours, till it comes to a good simmer in the crock pot, then add my vegetables. Add what you like... my family likes diced potatoes, carrots, onions, and a bag of frozen peas. Cook for about 2-3 more hours on high.

My mom even compliments the flavor in this stew. Give it a try!

Beef Stew
8 servings

2 Tbsp Canola Oil
2 lbs stew meat, cut into 1" cubes
1/4 Cup Flour
1-1/2 Tsp Salt
1/2 Tsp Pepper
1-1/2 Cup Beef broth
1 Tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 Garlic Clove, minced
1 Bay leaf
1 Tsp Paprika
4 Carrots, sliced
3 Potatoes, diced
2 Onions, chopped
1 Stalk celery, sliced
2 Tsp Cornstarch
1 Tsp Water

Mix the flour, salt and pepper together. Coat meat with flour mixture.

In a large fry pan, wok, or Dutch Oven, brown the meat in the oil (cooking a little meat at a time until all is browned). Place meat in a large pot and add about 3 cups beef broth, Worcestershire, garlic, bay leaf, paprika, carrots, onions and celery. Stir to mix.

Cook over medium heat until it comes to a slow boil, reduce to low and continue cooking (4 hours or so) until the liquid is reduced and meat is tender, stirring frequently.

Add potatoes and continue cooking about another 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender.

Remove meat and vegetable onto a warmed serving dish. To thicken the gravy add 2 teaspoons cornstarch to 1 teaspoon water; mixing well, and add to the gravy, stir until thickened. Serve with meat and vegetables.

Stew
1 tbsp. butter
1 lb. beef stew meat
1 tbsp. flour salt and pepper
1 large onion, chopped
2 stalks celery, sliced
4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/2 bag baby carrots
1 container button mushrooms, sliced
1 small can tomato paste
1 gallon water

Heat heavy bottomed pot until very hot. Season flour with salt and pepper, dip stew meat into flour, covering well. Melt butter in pot, add meat and brown well on all sides. Removed meat from pan, add onion and celery. Cover and let sweat 2-3 minutes. Add tomato paste and about a cup of water, scrape brown bits from bottom of pan. Return meat to pan, add potatoes and carrots. Add enough water to cover vegetables plus an inch. Cover and let stew simmer until potatoes are done, adding water as needed to keep from scorching. Ten minutes before serving, add mushrooms and allow stew to come to a boil. Cover and allow mushrooms to cook. Serve.

If you really want it to have a lot of flavor and you either don't have a crock pot or don't have all day to devote to making a good beef stew, then DON'T put stew meat in it. Buy a good steak (ask for the butcher's recommendation if you're not sure which steak to buy) and cut it into bite size cubes. Put three tablespoons flour and 1 teaspoon grill seasoning in a zipper baggie and add your steak cubes. Seal and shake until well coated. Put three tablespoons olive oil in a large pot, heat over medium heat and add the coated steak, then cook until brown. In the meantime, chop an onion, and cut thin slices of two carrots and two stalks of celery (for celery cut all the way through the leafy parts...the leafy parts are very tasty!) Add these to the steak and cook until carrots are tender. While these are cooking, cut about three small white potatoes into bite size cubes and put them on to boil. Boil them until they are tender. Back at the pot with meat and veggies add two minced cloves of garlic and about a tablespoon of more grill seasoning along with two tablespoons of tomato paste, stir these in to coat, then add two 16 oz cans of beef broth. When potatoes are tender, drain them, then add to the beef pot. Also add one can of stewed tomatoes. Taste test and add more salt and pepper IF NEEDED (the grill seasoning should be enough).

Yes, lots of carrots and an onion (some put mushrooms) and potatoes. Use beef broth or beef boullion instead of water for really great beef flavor. A crock pot is best, but you can simmer a goodie on the stove.

stew meat, any kind of vegetables you want, if you like onions include those too that will really bring the flavor out. but really have your meat slow cook in the slow cooker because this meal takes a while but then after a while or when your meat gets tender, put your vegetables in cuz they dont take too long and happy eating!!!

buy a pound of cheap beef roast. cut it up in 1 in chunks, dredge it in flour (with salt/pepper). set aside
skin and cut up into chunks, 1 potato, 1 large carrot, if you have it, use 1 turnip.
cut up 1 bell pepper(green), 1 medium onion, 2 garlic cloves, and a small handful of parsley..
fry the meat in oil till the outside is browned, then toss in all the remaining veggies.. toss a bit in the same oil..
cover just till 2 inches above veggies and meat with water.. Stir up to remove the fried on flour bits on the bottom
add 1 medium can of stewed tomatoes (chopped up, or crushed)
add 2 Tablespoons of worchestershire sauce
1 bay leaf
(2 beef boullion cubes, or 2 to 3 tsp salt)
1 tsp of sugar (yes sugar, brings out the flavors)
and 1 tsp of thyme, oregano, basil (the italian style spices)
let this whole stuff simmer for 45 min till meat is tender..
mmmmm!
note: you can also toss in whatever vegetables you have on hand.. Ive added chunked up cabbage, zuccini, and a handful of frozen mixed vegetables I had in the freezer also.
